How this component scores in each security and reliability category. Every signal is checked automatically against the live server, and we only credit what we can confirm. How we score → Why this is hard to score →
Endpoint Security77
- The endpoint's TLS certificate is valid, in date, and uses a strong key. View diagnostics → Pass
- No authorisation is required to call this server. Every tool declares its destructiveHint and none is destructive, so open access doesn't expose one. See how to fix → View diagnostics → Partial
- HTTPS is enforced; there's no plaintext access path. View diagnostics → Pass
- HSTS check failed: the Strict-Transport-Security header is absent. See how to fix → View diagnostics → Fail
- DNSSEC is configured correctly; the domain's records validate against the full chain to the root. View diagnostics → Pass
Transport & Reachability100
- Verified streamable-http transport via a live MCP handshake. View diagnostics → Pass
Schema Quality & AI Usability35
- 0% of prompts and resources have a non-trivial description (not blank, and not just the item's name).Fail
- AI-judged instruction clarity (good).Pass
- Context-footprint check failed: tool/resource definitions use about 815 tokens (~203/item across 4 items; 2 tools + 2 resources), over budget; trim descriptions and params. See how to fix → Fail
- Usage-examples check failed: none of the tools include examples. See how to fix → Fail
Stability & Change Management0
- Stability check failed: schema churn in the 7 days we've observed: 0 tool removals, 2 breaking changes, 0 auth/transport breaks, 0 additions. See how to fix → Fail
Tool Coverage100
- 100% of tools have a non-trivial description (not blank, and not just the tool's name).Pass
- 100% of tool parameters carry a description.Pass
Tool Safety100
- No prompt-injection markers were found in the server instructions, tool names or descriptions we captured.Pass
- We read all 2 captured tool definition(s), and no name or description among them implies an irreversible operation.Pass
- An AI judge read all 4 captured unit(s) of tool text and found none that tries to manipulate the model reading it.Pass
Capabilities100
- Implements a current MCP spec version (2026-07-28).Pass
- Supports UI / widget rendering.Pass

The tools this component advertises to a client, with an estimated token cost for each. Expand a tool to see its parameters and schema. The per-tool counts are indicative and are not scored directly; the schema's total context footprint is one signal in Schema Quality & AI Usability. A tool's description is untrusted text the model reads on every call, which is what makes this list a security surface and not just an inventory: how tool poisoning works →
get_deal ~85
One Sparkflights fare by the numeric id from search_deals: its itinerary, the price text of its fare page, its outbound and return flights, the date pairs its fare page lists with their prices, and its url, route_url and feed_url. A fare that is no longer live returns an error naming its route page.
| Name | Type | Req | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
| id | integer | yes | Deal ID |

search_deals ~565
Search flight fares Sparkflights has already found, ranked by cost per mile against each market's limit. Not a live fare search: an empty result means no current fare matches. Each deal has the price text of its Sparkflights fare page; url, the fare page; route_url, the route page, which lists the route's live fares and price history; and feed_url, the route's JSON feed of new fares. A search naming an origin or destination also returns fares when its deals are fewer than limit: the cheapest current fares for that place, as Google's flight explorer showed them, each with its price, dates, airline, seen_at (when it was seen) and route_url, its route page. A fare has no id or fare page yet.
| Name | Type | Req | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
| cabin | array | – | Cabin classes, one or more of: economy, premium_economy, business, first |
| depart_month | string | – | YYYY-MM, for example 2026-12: only deals whose first departure date is in that month |
| destination | string | – | Where the trip goes: an IATA airport code (NRT) for that airport, or a city for every airport the city's route pages cover: its name (Tokyo), a metro code (TYO), or its name with its country or state… |
| destination_region | array | – | Destination regions, one or more of: africa, asia, europe, north_america, oceania, south_america |
| include_budget | boolean | – | Add budget/low-cost carrier deals (Spirit, Frontier, etc.) to the others. Default false — budget deals are on /flights/budget. |
| limit | integer | – | Max results, 1-25. Default 10. |
| low_cost | boolean | – | true returns only budget/low-cost carrier deals; overrides include_budget |
| max_price | number | – | US dollars: only deals listed at or under this price |
| origin | string | – | Where the trip starts: an IATA airport code (JFK) for that airport, or a city for every airport the city's route pages cover: its name (New York), a metro code (NYC), or its name with its country or… |
| origin_region | array | – | Departure regions, one or more of: africa, asia, europe, north_america, oceania, south_america. Default: the regions the deal board lists, or every region when origin is given |
| sort | string | – | Sort order: cpm (default; cost per mile against its market's CPM ceiling, lowest first) or recent (newest first; newest is the same) |

What is the Sparkflights MCP server?
Sparkflights is an MCP server listed in the public MCP registry as io.github.Sparkflights-com/sparkflights. Search verified flight fares by city, month, cabin and price, with a link to book each one. This page covers its hosted endpoint (https://www.sparkflights.com/mcp/search).
Is the Sparkflights MCP server safe to use?
Sparkflights scores 65 out of 100 on VerifyMCP. That is a record of what we were able to check automatically, not an endorsement. The category breakdown on this page shows every signal behind the number, including the ones we could not confirm.
What tools does the Sparkflights MCP server expose?
Sparkflights exposes 2 tools: get_deal, search_deals. Their descriptions and schemas cost roughly 650 tokens of context every time the server is loaded.
Does the Sparkflights MCP server require authentication?
No. We connected to Sparkflights without credentials and it answered, so anything it exposes is reachable by anyone who knows the address.
Is the Sparkflights MCP server still maintained?
Sparkflights is still listed as active in the MCP registry. We last reached this channel on 5 November 2026. Those dates come from our own scans of the registry and the channel itself, not from anything the publisher announced.
