The tools this component advertises to a client, with an estimated token cost for each. Expand a tool to see its parameters and schema. The per-tool counts are indicative and are not scored directly; the schema's total context footprint is one signal in Schema Quality & AI Usability. A tool's description is untrusted text the model reads on every call, which is what makes this list a security surface and not just an inventory: how tool poisoning works →
board_docs Board reference ~70
Reference for the blackboard: artifact formats with examples (plot, svg, mermaid, molecule, icon), marks, equations, chapters and camera, animation, layout and style, saves. Call it before using a format for the first time.
| Name | Type | Req | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
| topic | string | yes | overview lists what you can draw |
No output schema declared.
No examples provided.
board_library Search illustrations ~105
Search the offline science illustration library (~2000 Bioicons: anatomy, organs, cells, blood and immunology, microbes, viruses, DNA, plants, animals, lab equipment). Returns icon ids for an artifact {type:'icon', icon:id, x, y, width}. No query lists the categories.
| Name | Type | Req | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
| category | string | – | Category substring |
| limit | number | – | Default 25 |
| query | string | – | Keywords, e.g. 'heart cross section' |
No output schema declared.
No examples provided.
board_open Open board ~57
Open the shared blackboard to teach visually: starts it, shows it in the learner's browser and activates the board tools (board_read, board_update, board_docs, ...). Returns the URL if no browser opens. Safe to call again.
Input schema present but exposes no named parameters.
No output schema declared.
No examples provided.
board_read Read board ~111
Read the shared blackboard: revision, chapters, camera, steps, and the layout (id, type, position, size, step) of one chapter. Read before board_update (pass the revision as baseRevision) and to resolve references like "step 4, eq2".
| Name | Type | Req | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
| chapter | string | – | Chapter id, 'all' or 'free' (default: camera's) |
| includeScene | boolean | – | Also return the scene JSON |
| includeSources | boolean | – | Include artifact sources |
No output schema declared.
No examples provided.
board_save Save board ~82
Save the board as a named snapshot, list snapshots, or load one (replaces the whole board; needs baseRevision from board_read). Details: board_docs saves.
| Name | Type | Req | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
| action | – | yes | load replaces the board |
| baseRevision | integer | – | Required for load |
| name | string | – | [A-Za-z0-9._-], default 'default' |
No output schema declared.
No examples provided.
board_snapshot Look at board ~102
Render the board in a headless browser and return a PNG as the learner sees it, plus each item's measured box and the layout warnings. Use it after significant changes, then fix problems with board_update.
| Name | Type | Req | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
| chapter | string | – | Chapter to capture |
| overview | boolean | – | All chapters |
| region | object | – | Board-space area (default: camera view) |
| width | number | – | Image px (default 1200, max 2400) |
No output schema declared.
No examples provided.
board_update Update board ~272
Draw on the shared blackboard; each call that adds items is one lesson step the learner watches being drawn. Coordinates: the home board and every chapter are 1200x800, origin top-left, y down; items with `chapter` use that chapter's local coordinates. Text y is the baseline; equation, rect, ellipse and artifact x,y is the top-left. `baseRevision` = the revision from your last board_read or board_update (compare-and-swap); on a conflict, board_read again and re-apply your change to the current board, never retry blindly. Invalid input is rejected with the reason and nothing is applied. Each result lists layout warnings (overlaps, items outside their chapter, failed renders): fix them with `items`. Items also take id (short, e.g. "eq1"), z, opacity, dash, chapter, step, reveal, duration, order. Formats and examples: board_docs.
| Name | Type | Req | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
| baseRevision | integer | yes | – |
| camera | – | – | {chapter}, a board rect, or null = home |
| chapters | array | – | – |
| check | boolean | – | – |
| clear | array | – | – |
| equations | array | – | – |
| items | array | – | – |
| scene | object | – | – |
| title | string | – | – |

What is the Math board MCP server?
Math board is an MCP server listed in the public MCP registry as io.github.smdesai27/math-board. A local, view-only chalkboard the model draws on: equations, plots, molecules and diagrams. This page covers its npm package (pi-math-board).
Is the Math board MCP server safe to use?
Math board scores 72 out of 100 on VerifyMCP. We found no known CVEs affecting it as of 6 November 2026. It declares no install or post-install scripts. That is a record of what we were able to check automatically, not an endorsement. The category breakdown on this page shows every signal behind the number, including the ones we could not confirm.
What tools does the Math board MCP server expose?
Math board exposes 7 tools: board_open, board_read, board_update, board_snapshot, board_library, and 2 more. Their descriptions and schemas cost roughly 799 tokens of context every time the server is loaded.
Is the Math board MCP server still maintained?
Math board is still listed as active in the MCP registry. We last reached this channel on 6 November 2026. Those dates come from our own scans of the registry and the channel itself, not from anything the publisher announced.
What licence is the Math board MCP server under?
Math board declares the MIT licence, which is OSI-approved. That covers the source only, and says nothing about the cost of any service it calls.
What did VerifyMCP test on the Math board MCP server?
VerifyMCP ran 16 checks on Math board, covering Malware scan, Known CVEs, Install scripts, Dependency health and 12 more. Endpoint Security and Transport & Reachability do not apply to an npm package, so they were not tested. The score does not measure everything, and the scoring documentation lists what it leaves out.
