## Trust breakdown

How this component scores in each security and reliability category. Every signal is checked automatically from public evidence about the published package, including repeated runs of it in an isolated sandbox, and we only credit what we can confirm. Scores are 0–100 per category. Scoring method: https://verifymcp.io/docs/scoring (what has changed: https://verifymcp.io/docs/scoring/changelog)

Scored 2026-11-05.

- **Supply Chain Security**: 49/100
  - Malware scan not yet available for this package.
  - No known CVEs affecting this package version or its production dependencies.
  - Runs hatchling.build at install time, a recognised build step with no custom scripting around it.
  - 4 of 47 dependencies flagged as unhealthy.
- **Provenance & Transparency**: 45/100
  - Source repository is publicly reachable at the declared URL.
  - Provenance check failed: no build-provenance attestation is published.
  - Clear OSI-approved license (GPL-3.0-or-later).
  - Actively maintained (last published 16 days ago).
  - Disclosure check failed: no security disclosure policy was found in the source repository.
- **Schema Quality & AI Usability**: 71/100
  - 100% of prompts and resources have a non-trivial description (not blank, and not just the item's name).
  - AI-judged instruction clarity (good).
  - Context-footprint check failed: tool/resource definitions use about 2852 tokens (~259/item across 11 items; 10 tools + 1 resources), over budget; trim descriptions and params.
  - Usage-examples check failed: none of the tools include examples.
- **Stability & Change Management**: 100/100
  - No destabilizing schema changes in the last 30 days.
- **Tool Coverage**: 90/100
  - 100% of tools have a non-trivial description (not blank, and not just the tool's name).
  - 66% of tool parameters carry a description.
  - Structured output schemas are declared (80% of tools); any adoption earns full credit.
- **Tool Safety**: 100/100
  - No prompt-injection markers were found in the server instructions, tool names or descriptions we captured.
  - We read all 10 captured tool definition(s), and no name or description among them implies an irreversible operation.
  - An AI judge read all 12 captured unit(s) of tool text and found none that tries to manipulate the model reading it.
- **Capabilities**: 100/100
  - Implements a current MCP spec version (2026-07-28).
  - Supports UI / widget rendering.

## MCP tools (10)

### `show_chart` (~82 tokens)

Show an accessible chart

Show data as a chart in the conversation that the reader explores with the keyboard, a screen reader, sonification and braille. Returns the viewId the maidr_* tools take. Only for a chart to show here: not for plotting code, files or web pages, nor where the host shows no MCP Apps, as in a terminal.

Input parameters:

- `chart` (required)

### `maidr_view_svg` (~70 tokens)

The latest SVG of a chart view and its revision: for a host that does not pass the tool result's _meta to it, and for the view to swap in update_chart's chart when its poll did not bring it.

Input parameters:

- `viewId` (string, required): The viewId show_chart returned.

### `maidr_view_poll` (~110 tokens)

The model's calls waiting for a chart view; waits up to `wait` seconds for one, unless the view is behind the chart's latest revision, when it answers at once with that chart's SVG.

Input parameters:

- `revision`
- `viewId` (string, required): The viewId show_chart returned.
- `wait` (number): Seconds to wait for a call when none is waiting: 20 holds the request open, 0 answers at once, for a host that cuts requests held open.

### `maidr_view_reply` (~47 tokens)

maidr's answer to one call.

Input parameters:

- `callId` (string, required)
- `result` (object, required)
- `viewId` (string, required): The viewId show_chart returned.

### `update_chart` (~126 tokens)

Change a chart already shown

Replaces the chart in the view show_chart opened with a new chart, in place: new data, another type, a filter. Takes that viewId and a chart as show_chart does, and adds no view to the conversation. A reader in the chart stays in it, on the new chart, and is told it changed; a reader elsewhere keeps their focus. The old chart's layer ids no longer apply, and a move or command still waiting for the reader in it is dropped.

Input parameters:

- `chart` (required)
- `viewId` (string, required): The viewId show_chart returned.

### `maidr_list_charts` (~78 tokens)

List a chart's layers and where the reader is

Runs maidr's maidr_list_charts in the chart: its layers, point counts, whether the reader is in the chart, and, while they are, their position as their screen reader last spoke it, live. Read-only; the reader hears nothing.

Input parameters:

- `viewId` (string, required): The viewId show_chart returned.

### `maidr_get_layer_data` (~104 tokens)

Read a page of a layer's points

Runs maidr's maidr_get_layer_data in the chart. Each point carries the target maidr_navigate takes. Read-only; the reader hears nothing.

Input parameters:

- `chartId`: maidr's chartId; needed only when the view holds several charts.
- `layerId` (string, required): A layerId from maidr_list_charts.
- `limit`
- `offset`
- `viewId` (string, required): The viewId show_chart returned.

### `maidr_navigate` (~405 tokens)

Move the reader to a point

Runs maidr's maidr_navigate in the chart: moves the reader's cursor to one point, given as that point's target from maidr_get_layer_data, either row and col or pointIndex. maidr announces it by speech, braille and sound at once when the reader is in the chart. Otherwise it answers applied "on-next-focus" and makes the move when they next enter the chart -- unless you pass focus: true, which moves their keyboard focus into the chart and makes the move there, announced as a keyboard move is. Pass focus: true only when the reader asked to be taken there now, as in "take me to the highest bar" -- never just because they left the chart, which they did on purpose, and not while the host shows a dialog of its own. When the result says focused: true, tell them their focus moved, and into which chart. focused: false means it could not -- Safari keeps a chart in a frame from taking focus without the reader's own key or click, and maidr moves focus for you at most once every 10 seconds in that chart -- and the move waits for them to Tab in. applied "on-next-focus" with focused: true means their focus moved in, but their braille field reopened there and holds the move until they close it. Whenever the result is not applied "now", tell them what its message says, and do not claim they are there.

Input parameters:

- `chartId`: maidr's chartId; needed only when the view holds several charts.
- `col`
- `focus`: Move the reader's keyboard focus into the chart, if it is not there, so this happens now. Only when they asked for that. Default false.
- `layerId` (string, required): A layerId from maidr_list_charts.
- `pointIndex`
- `row`
- `viewId` (string, required): The viewId show_chart returned.

### `maidr_list_commands` (~237 tokens)

List the reader's chart commands

Runs maidr's maidr_list_commands in the chart: the reader's keyboard commands, the ones in maidr's command palette (text, sound, braille, high contrast and monitoring on and off, autoplay, jumps to the highest or lowest value and between layers, and more). Each has a `command` id, a `title` in the reader's language, the `keys` the reader presses for it, and whether maidr_run_command can run it; one that opens a dialog or text field is the reader's to use, so tell them its keys instead. Also returns the reader's current `modes` (text verbose, terse or off; sound, braille, highContrast, monitor and autoplay on or off; the navigationMode their arrow keys move in), whether they are in the chart or in a MAIDR dialog, and how many commands wait for them to enter it. Read-only; the reader hears nothing.

Input parameters:

- `chartId`: maidr's chartId; needed only when the view holds several charts.
- `viewId` (string, required): The viewId show_chart returned.

### `maidr_run_command` (~617 tokens)

Run one of the reader's chart commands

Runs maidr's maidr_run_command in the chart: one of the reader's own commands, by its id from maidr_list_commands, as if they had pressed its keys where they are; their screen reader, braille display and sonification report the result. Only run a command the reader asked for. A toggle steps a mode on rather than setting it: toggle_text goes verbose, terse, off, verbose; toggle_sound turns sound off or on, except on a scatter plot, where sound that is on goes combined, separate, off, combined. So check `modes` from maidr_list_commands first, run a toggle only as often as reaching what the reader asked for takes, and check the `modes` each run returns. If the reader has a MAIDR dialog open, nothing runs (applied "blocked"). If they are not in the chart, it answers applied "on-next-focus" and the command runs when they next enter the chart: tell them so, and do not claim it has happened -- unless you pass focus: true, which moves their keyboard focus into the chart, where the command runs half a second after they hear where they are. Pass focus: true only when the reader asked for it to happen now, as in "play it now" -- never just because they left the chart, which they did on purpose, and not while the host shows a dialog of its own. When the result says focused: true, tell them their focus moved, and into which chart. focused: false means it could not -- Safari keeps a chart in a frame from taking focus without the reader's own key or click, and maidr moves focus for you at most once every 10 seconds in that chart -- and the command waits for them to Tab in. A result of applied "queued" has not run yet either: it waits its turn behind what was kept for the reader, has no `modes`, and maidr_list_commands counts it in `pending` until it runs. applied "on-next-focus" while the reader is in the chart -- with focused: true, their focus moved in, or without it, they had just come back -- means their braille field reopened there and holds a move kept for them, and the com…

Input parameters:

- `chartId`: maidr's chartId; needed only when the view holds several charts.
- `command` (string, required): A command id maidr_list_commands lists as runnable.
- `focus`: Move the reader's keyboard focus into the chart, if it is not there, so this happens now. Only when they asked for that. Default false.
- `viewId` (string, required): The viewId show_chart returned.

## Common questions

### What is the maidr MCP server?

maidr is an MCP server listed in the public MCP registry as io.github.xability/maidr-mcp. Accessible maidr charts in ChatGPT and Claude, explored by sound, braille and screen reader. This page covers its PyPI package (maidr-mcp).

### Is the maidr MCP server safe to use?

maidr scores 68 out of 100 on VerifyMCP. We found no known CVEs affecting it as of 5 November 2026. That is a record of what we were able to check automatically, not an endorsement. The category breakdown on this page shows every signal behind the number, including the ones we could not confirm.

### What tools does the maidr MCP server expose?

maidr exposes 10 tools: show_chart, maidr_view_svg, maidr_view_poll, maidr_view_reply, update_chart, and 5 more. Their descriptions and schemas cost roughly 1,876 tokens of context every time the server is loaded.

### Is the maidr MCP server still maintained?

maidr is still listed as active in the MCP registry. We last reached this channel on 5 November 2026. Those dates come from our own scans of the registry and the channel itself, not from anything the publisher announced.

### What licence is the maidr MCP server under?

maidr declares the GPL-3.0-or-later licence, which is OSI-approved. That covers the source only, and says nothing about the cost of any service it calls.
