## Trust breakdown

How this component scores in each security and reliability category. Every signal is checked automatically against the live server, and we only credit what we can confirm. Scores are 0–100 per category. Scoring method: https://verifymcp.io/docs/scoring (what has changed: https://verifymcp.io/docs/scoring/changelog)

Scored 2026-10-23.

- **Endpoint Security**: 74/100
  - The endpoint's TLS certificate is valid, in date, and uses a strong key.
  - No authorisation is required to call this server. Every tool declares its destructiveHint and none is destructive, so open access doesn't expose one.
  - HTTPS is enforced; there's no plaintext access path.
  - HSTS check failed: the Strict-Transport-Security header is absent.
  - DNSSEC check failed: this domain isn't protected by DNSSEC.
- **Transport & Reachability**: 100/100
  - Verified streamable-http transport via a live MCP handshake.
- **Schema Quality & AI Usability**: 70/100
  - AI-judged instruction clarity (excellent).
  - Context-footprint check failed: tool/resource definitions use about 1826 tokens (~202/item across 9 items; 9 tools + 0 resources), over budget; trim descriptions and params.
  - Usage-examples check failed: none of the tools include examples.
- **Stability & Change Management**: 7/100
  - Stability observed for 2 of 30 days with no destabilising changes; credit accrues until the full window elapses.
- **Tool Coverage**: 100/100
  - 100% of tools have a non-trivial description (not blank, and not just the tool's name).
  - 100% of tool parameters carry a description.
  - Structured output schemas are declared (100% of tools); any adoption earns full credit.
- **Tool Safety**: 100/100
  - No prompt-injection markers were found in the server instructions, tool names or descriptions we captured.
  - We read all 9 captured tool definition(s), and no name or description among them implies an irreversible operation.
  - An AI judge read all 10 captured unit(s) of tool text and found none that tries to manipulate the model reading it.
- **Capabilities**: 60/100
  - Spec-recency check failed: implements MCP spec 2025-06-18; the latest is 2026-07-28.

## MCP tools (9)

### `find_geometry` (~377 tokens)

Search objects by name

Search the library of exact real-object geometry (fasteners, extrusion, sanitary fittings, electronics boards, phones and devices, motors, mounts, engine parts and complete assemblies) by name or keyword. Use it when you know what the thing is called; use find_by_dimensions when you only have measurements, list_categories to learn filter values. Every query word must appear in the object's name, aliases or tags (case-insensitive; '80-40', '80x40' and '8040' match alike); filters narrow with AND. Returns 20 summaries per page (limit up to 100) with total and next_offset for paging; an empty result means nothing matched every word, so retry with fewer words.

Input parameters:

- `category` (string): Exact category name from list_categories, e.g. 'Hardware'.
- `free_only` (boolean): Only objects whose files are free to download.
- `group` (string): Exact group name within a category from list_categories, e.g. 'Fasteners'.
- `kind` (string): modern/vintage = a product; standard = a part defined by a standard; hardware = a generated part with free files; list = a complete assembly with its parts list.
- `les_only` (boolean): Only parts used in Long Earth Society engine builds.
- `limit` (integer): Page size, default 20.
- `offset` (integer): Start index; pass next_offset from the previous page.
- `query` (string): Keywords, e.g. 'M3 heat set insert', 'tri clamp ferrule 2in', 'raspberry pi 5'. Omit to list by filters alone.
- `year` (string): Release year for products: '2023', '2020s' or '2010-2019'; objects without a year are then excluded.

Output parameters:

- `count` (integer)
- `next` (string)
- `next_offset` (integer|null)
- `objects` (array)
- `offset` (integer)
- `total` (integer)

### `find_by_dimensions` (~211 tokens)

Search objects by measured size

Identify an object from sizes you measured (an outline, a bore, a pin, a flange) when you don't know its name; use find_geometry when you do. Each size is compared, within tolerance_mm, against the object's overall size in any order and against its exact feature sizes (bores, slots, pins, size tables). Ranked: all overall sizes matching first, then the most matching features; up to 25 results, each saying which numbers matched where. No match is not an error: widen tolerance_mm or file request_object.

Input parameters:

- `category` (string): Optional exact category from list_categories to narrow the search.
- `sizes_mm` (array, required): One to four sizes in mm, e.g. [40, 80] for a profile, [10.5] for a bore.
- `tolerance_mm` (number): Allowed difference per size, default 0.5. Use about 0.2 for caliper readings of machined parts, 1 for rough measurements.

Output parameters:

- `next` (string)
- `results` (array)
- `sizes_mm` (array)
- `tolerance_mm` (number)
- `total` (integer)

### `get_geometry` (~156 tokens)

Read one object's dimension sheet

Read the full dimension sheet of one object: overall size, mounting holes, notes, size tables, mating features, related objects (call get_geometry on their slugs to traverse), FAQ, and every public CAD source with its license. Use it to answer how big something is, where its holes are, or what it fits. It never returns download links: use get_free_files for those, get_assembly for a complete assembly, get_fits when you only need the mating features. Unknown objects return an error with a hint to search first.

Input parameters:

- `object` (string, required): Slug as returned by find_geometry or find_by_dimensions, e.g. '4080-aluminum-extrusion'. An exact name or alias also resolves.

Output parameters:

- `dimensions` (string)
- `faq` (array)
- `files` (object)
- `mating` (array)
- `name` (string)
- `paid_offers` (array)
- `related` (array)
- `sheet` (object)
- `sheet_text` (string|null)
- `slug` (string)
- `sources` (array)

### `get_free_files` (~180 tokens)

List one object's download links

List direct STEP and STL (and DXF where present) download URLs for one object's free files, licensed CC BY 4.0 (credit 'Xem Studio'). For a complete assembly (slug list-*) it returns the assembled model plus every part's files with quantities. Use it when you need files rather than dimensions (get_geometry) or file contents (get_file_content). An object with no free files returns an empty list and a note pointing to its public sources; that is not an error.

Input parameters:

- `filter` (string): Keep only files whose name or note contains this text, e.g. 'm3x10' or '2in'.
- `object` (string, required): Slug as returned by find_geometry or find_by_dimensions, e.g. '4080-aluminum-extrusion'. An exact name or alias also resolves.

Output parameters:

- `assembly` (object|null)
- `count` (integer)
- `files` (array)
- `license` (string)
- `note` (string)
- `object` (string)
- `parts` (array)

### `get_file_content` (~188 tokens)

Read one CAD file's contents

Return the contents of one free file so you can read or modify the geometry directly: STEP and DXF as UTF-8 text, STL as base64; units are millimetres. Use it after get_free_files gives you the file name; use get_free_files instead when a download URL is enough. Files over 600 KB are not inlined: you get size_bytes and the URL. An unknown file name returns an error listing the valid names.

Input parameters:

- `file` (string, required): A file name exactly as get_free_files lists it, e.g. '4080-100'.
- `format` (string): Default step. DXF exists only for 2D sections such as extrusion profiles.
- `object` (string, required): Slug as returned by find_geometry or find_by_dimensions, e.g. '4080-aluminum-extrusion'. An exact name or alias also resolves.

Output parameters:

- `content` (string)
- `encoding` (string)
- `file` (string)
- `format` (string)
- `inlined` (boolean)
- `license` (string)
- `object` (string)
- `size_bytes` (integer)
- `units` (string)
- `url` (string)

### `get_assembly` (~139 tokens)

Read a complete assembly

Return everything needed to build one complete assembly from its parts list (slug list-*, e.g. an engine or an alternator module): what it is and its performance numbers, every part line with quantity, placement note and file URLs, each part's mating features, the build order, and the assembled STEP/STL in which every part is already in position. Use it instead of calling get_geometry part by part; find assemblies with find_geometry(kind='list'). A slug that is not a list returns an error.

Input parameters:

- `object` (string, required): An assembly slug starting 'list-', e.g. 'list-ta-ring-3x2in'.

Output parameters:

- `assembly` (object|null)
- `build_order` (array)
- `lines` (array)
- `name` (string)
- `numbers` (string)
- `object` (string)
- `part_lines` (integer)
- `parts_total` (integer)
- `what` (string)

### `get_fits` (~161 tokens)

Read one object's mating features

Return only the mating features of one object: each hole, pin, pocket, slot or socket that meets another part, its exact size, what it mates with, and its fit class (press, slide, run, socket, clamp, designed). Use it before preparing a part to print or machine, or when get_geometry's full sheet is more than you need. All sizes are exact with no clearance: add your process allowance to press, slide, run and socket features only; designed and clamp features stay as drawn. Objects without mating features return an empty list.

Input parameters:

- `object` (string, required): Slug as returned by find_geometry or find_by_dimensions, e.g. '4080-aluminum-extrusion'. An exact name or alias also resolves.

Output parameters:

- `dimensions` (string)
- `fit_classes` (object)
- `mating` (array)
- `note` (string)
- `object` (string)

### `list_categories` (~58 tokens)

List categories and groups

List every category and the groups inside it with object counts, plus the catalog version. Use it to get the exact category and group names that find_geometry and find_by_dimensions filter on; it takes no input and returns the whole tree in one call.

Output parameters:

- `categories` (object): category name -> { count, groups: { group name -> count } }
- `total` (integer)
- `version` (string)

### `request_object` (~176 tokens)

Request a missing object

File a request for an object the library lacks so it gets added. Use it only after find_geometry and find_by_dimensions find nothing suitable. Each call stores one new request (calling twice files two) in the owner's private inbox; nothing else changes and nothing is published. Stored: the text, the optional contact and the time, with no IP address. Requests set the order objects are added; there is no reply unless a contact is given. At most 300 requests a day are accepted site-wide.

Input parameters:

- `contact` (string): Optional email or handle for a reply; include only if the person asks to be contacted.
- `text` (string, required): Plain description: exact model or part number if known, what it must fit or mate with, which features matter, and any sizes already known. 3 to 4000 characters.

Output parameters:

- `id` (integer)
- `message` (string)
- `ok` (boolean)

## Common questions

### What is the Xem Studio MCP server?

Xem Studio is an MCP server listed in the public MCP registry as io.github.travisseamon-a11y/xemstudio. Exact-dimension geometry for AI agents: free STEP/STL files, dimension sheets, mating fit data. This page covers its hosted endpoint (https://xemstudio.com/mcp).

### Is the Xem Studio MCP server safe to use?

Xem Studio scores 70 out of 100 on VerifyMCP. That is a record of what we were able to check automatically, not an endorsement. The category breakdown on this page shows every signal behind the number, including the ones we could not confirm.

### What tools does the Xem Studio MCP server expose?

Xem Studio exposes 9 tools: find_geometry, find_by_dimensions, get_geometry, get_free_files, get_file_content, and 4 more. Their descriptions and schemas cost roughly 1,646 tokens of context every time the server is loaded.

### Does the Xem Studio MCP server require authentication?

No. We connected to Xem Studio without credentials and it answered, so anything it exposes is reachable by anyone who knows the address.

### Is the Xem Studio MCP server still maintained?

Xem Studio is still listed as active in the MCP registry. We last reached this channel on 23 October 2026. Those dates come from our own scans of the registry and the channel itself, not from anything the publisher announced.
