## Trust breakdown

How this component scores in each security and reliability category. Every signal is checked automatically from public evidence about the published package, including repeated runs of it in an isolated sandbox, and we only credit what we can confirm. Scores are 0–100 per category. Scoring method: https://verifymcp.io/docs/scoring (what has changed: https://verifymcp.io/docs/scoring/changelog)

Scored 2026-11-05.

- **Supply Chain Security**: 100/100
  - No malware found by supply-chain analysis.
  - No known CVEs affecting this package version or its production dependencies.
  - No install/post-install scripts declared.
  - No production dependencies, so there is no dependency health to assess.
- **Provenance & Transparency**: 97/100
  - Source repository is publicly reachable at the declared URL.
  - Cryptographically verified build provenance (signed, bound to pipeworx-io/mcp-neiss).
  - Clear OSI-approved license (MIT).
  - Actively maintained (last published 1 days ago).
  - Disclosure check failed: no security disclosure policy was found in the source repository.
- **Schema Quality & AI Usability**: 65/100
  - AI-judged instruction clarity (good).
  - Context-footprint check failed: tool/resource definitions use about 675 tokens (~225/item across 3 items; 3 tools + 0 resources), over budget; trim descriptions and params.
  - Usage-examples check failed: none of the tools include examples.
- **Stability & Change Management**: 20/100
  - Stability observed for 6 of 30 days with no destabilising changes; credit accrues until the full window elapses.
- **Tool Coverage**: 100/100
  - 100% of tools have a non-trivial description (not blank, and not just the tool's name).
  - 100% of tool parameters carry a description.
  - Structured output schemas are declared (100% of tools); any adoption earns full credit.
- **Tool Safety**: 100/100
  - No prompt-injection markers were found in the server instructions, tool names or descriptions we captured.
  - We read all 3 captured tool definition(s), and no name or description among them implies an irreversible operation.
  - An AI judge read all 4 captured unit(s) of tool text and found none that tries to manipulate the model reading it.
- **Capabilities**: 100/100
  - Implements a supported MCP spec version (2025-11-25); the latest is 2026-07-28.

Every change recorded for this component, newest first. Days that predate change tracking, or that we cannot explain, say so: "we were watching and nothing happened" and "we were not watching" are different claims.

### 2026-11-05 (score 82, +1)

No change was recorded against any check on this day. Stability & Change Management went from 17 to 20. That category is still filling its 30-day observation window: 5 days of observed history at the previous scan, 6 at this one. The score rises as the window fills, whether or not the server changes.

## MCP tools (3)

### `neiss_injuries` (~343 tokens)

National WEIGHTED estimate of consumer-product-related emergency-department injuries from CPSC's NEISS surveillance system — "how many people were injured by X", "ER visits from Y last year". Pass either an exact 4-digit product_code (see neiss_product_codes) or a free-text product name to resolve. Returns the national estimate (NOT a raw case count — NEISS samples ~100 hospitals and CPSC's own estimate is the sum of each sampled case's statistical weight) plus the underlying sample size. Estimates built from fewer than ~20 sampled cases are flagged unstable per CPSC convention and should not be quoted as precise. Optionally narrow by age_range. Covers emergency-department-treated injuries only, not deaths, hospitalizations elsewhere, or injuries that did not reach an ED.

Input parameters:

- `age_range` (string): Patient age bucket at time of injury. Default "all" (every age, including unknown).
- `from_year` (number): Start of a year range instead of a single year (inclusive).
- `product` (string): Free-text product name instead of a code, e.g. "stairs", "swimming pools". Matched case-insensitively against NEISS product titles; ambiguous matches return candidates instead of a number.
- `product_code` (string): Exact 4-digit CPSC NEISS product code, e.g. "1842". Leading zeros optional.
- `to_year` (number): End of a year range (inclusive). Requires from_year.
- `year` (number): A single calendar year, e.g. 2024. Default: the most recent year loaded (the response says which).

Output parameters:

- `age_range` (string)
- `any_unstable` (boolean)
- `found` (boolean)
- `interpretation` (string)
- `product_code` (string)
- `product_title` (string)
- `source` (string)
- `total_estimated_injuries` (number)
- `total_sample_cases` (number)
- `years` (array)

### `neiss_top_products` (~156 tokens)

Rank consumer products by national WEIGHTED emergency-department injury estimate for one year — "what injures people the most", "top products by ER visits", "most dangerous household products". Backed by the same CPSC NEISS national-estimate methodology as neiss_injuries (summed statistical weight, not raw case counts). Optionally narrow by age_range, e.g. age_range="0-4" for products that injure young children most.

Input parameters:

- `age_range` (string): Default "all".
- `limit` (number): Products to return, 1-50 (default 20).
- `year` (number): Calendar year. Default: the most recent year loaded (the response says which).

Output parameters:

- `age_range` (string)
- `found` (boolean)
- `interpretation` (string)
- `products` (array)
- `source` (string)
- `year` (number)

### `neiss_product_codes` (~124 tokens)

Look up CPSC NEISS product/activity codes by keyword, e.g. "pool", "ATV", "trampoline" — use this to find the exact product_code to pass to neiss_injuries, or just to see how CPSC categorizes a product. Entirely local (the fixed ~800-code NEISS coding-manual list); no live call.

Input parameters:

- `limit` (number): Max matches, 1-100 (default 25).
- `query` (string, required): Keyword to match against NEISS product titles, case-insensitive substring.

Output parameters:

- `codes` (array)
- `found` (boolean)
- `returned` (number)
- `total_matched` (number)

## Common questions

### What is the Neiss MCP server?

Neiss is an MCP server listed in the public MCP registry as io.github.pipeworx-io/neiss. NEISS, CPSC's national weighted consumer-product injury estimates. This page covers its npm package (@pipeworx/mcp-neiss).

### Is the Neiss MCP server safe to use?

Neiss scores 82 out of 100 on VerifyMCP. We found no known CVEs affecting it as of 5 November 2026. It declares no install or post-install scripts. Its build provenance is signed and verified. That is a record of what we were able to check automatically, not an endorsement. The category breakdown on this page shows every signal behind the number, including the ones we could not confirm.

### What tools does the Neiss MCP server expose?

Neiss exposes 3 tools: neiss_injuries, neiss_top_products, neiss_product_codes. Their descriptions and schemas cost roughly 623 tokens of context every time the server is loaded.

### Is the Neiss MCP server still maintained?

Neiss is still listed as active in the MCP registry. We last reached this channel on 5 November 2026. Those dates come from our own scans of the registry and the channel itself, not from anything the publisher announced.

### What licence is the Neiss MCP server under?

Neiss declares the MIT licence, which is OSI-approved. That covers the source only, and says nothing about the cost of any service it calls.
