## Trust breakdown

How this component scores in each security and reliability category. Every signal is checked automatically from public evidence about the published package, including repeated runs of it in an isolated sandbox, and we only credit what we can confirm. Scores are 0–100 per category. Scoring method: https://verifymcp.io/docs/scoring (what has changed: https://verifymcp.io/docs/scoring/changelog)

Scored 2026-11-05.

- **Supply Chain Security**: 100/100
  - No malware found by supply-chain analysis.
  - No known CVEs affecting this package version or its production dependencies.
  - No install/post-install scripts declared.
  - No production dependencies, so there is no dependency health to assess.
- **Provenance & Transparency**: 97/100
  - Source repository is publicly reachable at the declared URL.
  - Cryptographically verified build provenance (signed, bound to pipeworx-io/mcp-i-ching).
  - Clear OSI-approved license (MIT).
  - Actively maintained (last published 2 days ago).
  - Disclosure check failed: no security disclosure policy was found in the source repository.
- **Schema Quality & AI Usability**: 67/100
  - AI-judged instruction clarity (good).
  - Context-footprint check failed: tool/resource definitions use about 605 tokens (~201/item across 3 items; 3 tools + 0 resources), over budget; trim descriptions and params.
  - Usage-examples check failed: none of the tools include examples.
- **Stability & Change Management**: 20/100
  - Stability observed for 6 of 30 days with no destabilising changes; credit accrues until the full window elapses.
- **Tool Coverage**: 100/100
  - 100% of tools have a non-trivial description (not blank, and not just the tool's name).
  - 100% of tool parameters carry a description.
- **Tool Safety**: 100/100
  - No prompt-injection markers were found in the server instructions, tool names or descriptions we captured.
  - We read all 3 captured tool definition(s), and no name or description among them implies an irreversible operation.
  - An AI judge read all 4 captured unit(s) of tool text and found none that tries to manipulate the model reading it.
- **Capabilities**: 100/100
  - Implements a supported MCP spec version (2025-11-25); the latest is 2026-07-28.

Every change recorded for this component, newest first. Days that predate change tracking, or that we cannot explain, say so: "we were watching and nothing happened" and "we were not watching" are different claims.

### 2026-11-04 (score 82, +1)

No change was recorded against any check on this day. Stability & Change Management went from 13 to 17. That category is still filling its 30-day observation window: 4 days of observed history at the previous scan, 5 at this one. The score rises as the window fills, whether or not the server changes.

## MCP tools (3)

### `cast_i_ching` (~296 tokens)

Cast an I Ching hexagram using the traditional three-coin method (default) or the classical yarrow-stalk method, per James Legge's 1899 translation. Generates six line values (6/7/8/9) with the method’s real probabilities (coins: 1/8, 3/8, 3/8, 1/8 for 6/7/8/9; yarrow: 1/16, 5/16, 7/16, 3/16), builds the primary hexagram, lists any changing lines with their texts, and derives the resulting hexagram (null when nothing changes). Pass `seed` back to replay the exact same cast. The hexagram and line texts are traditional meanings for the calling agent to interpret in light of its own question — this tool does not answer the question itself.

Input parameters:

- `method` (string): Divination method. "coins" (default): three-coin toss, six times. "yarrow": classical yarrow-stalk division, with different (narrower) probabilities.
- `question` (string): Optional question being asked of the oracle. Echoed back verbatim in the result; never interpreted by this tool.
- `seed` (string): Optional seed for a reproducible cast. Omit for real randomness; the seed used is always returned so the cast can be replayed.

### `get_hexagram` (~155 tokens)

Look up one of the 64 I Ching hexagrams (King Wen sequence) by its number (1-64) or by name (Chinese, pinyin, or the English gloss used in this pack). Returns the full hexagram: binary lines, upper/lower trigram, judgment, image, all six line texts, and keywords, each in original wording referencing James Legge’s 1899 translation as the public-domain source.

Input parameters:

- `name` (string): Hexagram name: Chinese characters, pinyin (with or without tone marks), or English gloss, e.g. "Qian", "乾", "Pure Yang".
- `number` (number): King Wen hexagram number, 1-64.

### `search_hexagrams` (~100 tokens)

Search the 64 I Ching hexagrams (King Wen sequence) by a free-text query matched against name (Chinese, pinyin, English gloss) and keywords. Returns every matching hexagram as a short summary (number, names, binary lines); use get_hexagram for the full text of any match.

Input parameters:

- `query` (string, required): Search text, e.g. "patience", "thunder", "withdrawal", "Qian".

## Common questions

### What is the I Ching MCP server?

I Ching is an MCP server listed in the public MCP registry as io.github.pipeworx-io/i-ching. i-ching, cast the I Ching with coins or yarrow stalks, and look up any of the 64 hexagrams (King… This page covers its npm package (@pipeworx/mcp-i-ching).

### Is the I Ching MCP server safe to use?

I Ching scores 82 out of 100 on VerifyMCP. We found no known CVEs affecting it as of 5 November 2026. It declares no install or post-install scripts. Its build provenance is signed and verified. That is a record of what we were able to check automatically, not an endorsement. The category breakdown on this page shows every signal behind the number, including the ones we could not confirm.

### What tools does the I Ching MCP server expose?

I Ching exposes 3 tools: cast_i_ching, get_hexagram, search_hexagrams. Their descriptions and schemas cost roughly 551 tokens of context every time the server is loaded.

### Is the I Ching MCP server still maintained?

I Ching is still listed as active in the MCP registry. We last reached this channel on 5 November 2026. Those dates come from our own scans of the registry and the channel itself, not from anything the publisher announced.

### What licence is the I Ching MCP server under?

I Ching declares the MIT licence, which is OSI-approved. That covers the source only, and says nothing about the cost of any service it calls.

### What did VerifyMCP test on the I Ching MCP server?

VerifyMCP ran 16 checks on I Ching, covering Malware scan, Known CVEs, Install scripts, Dependency health and 12 more. Endpoint Security and Transport & Reachability do not apply to an npm package, so they were not tested. The score does not measure everything, and the scoring documentation lists what it leaves out.
