## Trust breakdown

How this component scores in each security and reliability category. Every signal is checked automatically from public evidence about the published package, including repeated runs of it in an isolated sandbox, and we only credit what we can confirm. Scores are 0–100 per category. Scoring method: https://verifymcp.io/docs/scoring (what has changed: https://verifymcp.io/docs/scoring/changelog)

Scored 2026-11-05.

- **Supply Chain Security**: 100/100
  - No malware found by supply-chain analysis.
  - No known CVEs affecting this package version or its production dependencies.
  - No install/post-install scripts declared.
  - No production dependencies, so there is no dependency health to assess.
- **Provenance & Transparency**: 97/100
  - Source repository is publicly reachable at the declared URL.
  - Cryptographically verified build provenance (signed, bound to pipeworx-io/mcp-hud).
  - Clear OSI-approved license (MIT).
  - Actively maintained (last published 2 days ago).
  - Disclosure check failed: no security disclosure policy was found in the source repository.
- **Schema Quality & AI Usability**: 69/100
  - AI-judged instruction clarity (good).
  - Context-footprint check failed: tool/resource definitions use about 789 tokens (~157/item across 5 items; 5 tools + 0 resources), over budget; trim descriptions and params.
  - Usage-examples check failed: none of the tools include examples.
- **Stability & Change Management**: 23/100
  - Stability observed for 7 of 30 days with no destabilising changes; credit accrues until the full window elapses.
- **Tool Coverage**: 100/100
  - 100% of tools have a non-trivial description (not blank, and not just the tool's name).
  - 100% of tool parameters carry a description.
- **Tool Safety**: 100/100
  - No prompt-injection markers were found in the server instructions, tool names or descriptions we captured.
  - We read all 5 captured tool definition(s), and no name or description among them implies an irreversible operation.
  - An AI judge read all 6 captured unit(s) of tool text and found none that tries to manipulate the model reading it.
- **Capabilities**: 100/100
  - Implements a supported MCP spec version (2025-11-25); the latest is 2026-07-28.

## Changelog

Every change recorded for this component, newest first. Days that predate change tracking, or that we cannot explain, say so: "we were watching and nothing happened" and "we were not watching" are different claims.

### 2026-11-04 (score 83, +1)

No change was recorded against any check on this day. Stability & Change Management went from 17 to 20. That category is still filling its 30-day observation window: 5 days of observed history at the previous scan, 6 at this one. The score rises as the window fills, whether or not the server changes.

## MCP tools (5)

### `hud_fair_market_rents` (~286 tokens)

Get HUD Fair Market Rent ceilings by bedroom count (0–4+) for a county or metropolitan area and year. AREA-LEVEL ANNUAL STATISTICS only — one benchmark rent figure per area per bedroom count, published yearly by HUD for housing programs. NOT rental listings: it cannot find homes or apartments actually for rent (for that, use rentcast search_rental_listings). Pass area_name with a state code for ordinary names such as "Travis County"; the tool resolves HUD's required entity ID. A 5-digit county FIPS is also accepted and expanded to HUD's 10-digit county ID. Omit year for HUD's latest available fiscal year.

Input parameters:

- `_apiKey` (string, required): HUD API token
- `area_name` (string): County or metro name to resolve (e.g., "Travis County" or "Austin-Round Rock"). Use instead of entity_id.
- `entity_id` (string): HUD entity ID, 5-digit county FIPS, or HUD metro code. Omit to resolve area_name or get all areas in the state.
- `state_code` (string, required): Two-letter state code (e.g., "CA", "NY", "TX"). Required to get state-level summary.
- `year` (number): Fiscal year (e.g., 2024). Omit for the most recent year.

### `hud_income_limits` (~131 tokens)

Check income eligibility thresholds (extremely low, very low, low-income) for HUD programs by area and family size. Returns income limits by category. Use to determine program qualification.

Input parameters:

- `_apiKey` (string, required): HUD API token
- `entity_id` (string): FIPS code or metro area code for a specific area. Omit to get all areas in the state.
- `state_code` (string, required): Two-letter state code (e.g., "CA", "NY").
- `year` (number): Fiscal year (e.g., 2024). Omit for the most recent year.

### `hud_crosswalk` (~148 tokens)

Map ZIP codes to census tracts, counties, CBSAs, and congressional districts. Returns geographic identifiers. Use to translate between location code formats or join datasets.

Input parameters:

- `_apiKey` (string, required): HUD API token
- `query` (string, required): Input value: ZIP code (for types 1-4), or FIPS county code (for type 7). Example: "90210" or "06037".
- `type` (number, required): Crosswalk type: 1=ZIP-to-tract, 2=ZIP-to-county, 3=ZIP-to-CBSA, 4=ZIP-to-congressional-district, 7=county-to-ZIP.

### `hud_chas` (~122 tokens)

Get housing affordability data by income level and family type. Returns household counts with cost burdens, overcrowding, and housing problems. Use for housing needs assessment.

Input parameters:

- `_apiKey` (string, required): HUD API token
- `entity_id` (string): FIPS code for a specific county or place. Omit to get state-level data.
- `state_code` (string, required): Two-letter state code (e.g., "CA", "NY").
- `year` (number): Data year (e.g., 2020). Omit for the most recent available.

### `hud_list_states` (~51 tokens)

List all U.S. state codes and names. Returns state abbreviations and full names. Use to validate or discover state codes for other HUD tools.

Input parameters:

- `_apiKey` (string, required): HUD API token

## Common questions

### What is the Hud MCP server?

Hud is an MCP server listed in the public MCP registry as io.github.pipeworx-io/hud. HUD MCP, U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development APIs. This page covers its npm package (@pipeworx/mcp-hud).

### Is the Hud MCP server safe to use?

Hud scores 83 out of 100 on VerifyMCP. We found no known CVEs affecting it as of 5 November 2026. It declares no install or post-install scripts. Its build provenance is signed and verified. That is a record of what we were able to check automatically, not an endorsement. The category breakdown on this page shows every signal behind the number, including the ones we could not confirm.

### What tools does the Hud MCP server expose?

Hud exposes 5 tools: hud_fair_market_rents, hud_income_limits, hud_crosswalk, hud_chas, hud_list_states. Their descriptions and schemas cost roughly 738 tokens of context every time the server is loaded.

### Is the Hud MCP server still maintained?

Hud is still listed as active in the MCP registry. We last reached this channel on 5 November 2026. Those dates come from our own scans of the registry and the channel itself, not from anything the publisher announced.

### What licence is the Hud MCP server under?

Hud declares the MIT licence, which is OSI-approved. That covers the source only, and says nothing about the cost of any service it calls.

### What did VerifyMCP test on the Hud MCP server?

VerifyMCP ran 16 checks on Hud, covering Malware scan, Known CVEs, Install scripts, Dependency health and 12 more. Endpoint Security and Transport & Reachability do not apply to an npm package, so they were not tested. The score does not measure everything, and the scoring documentation lists what it leaves out.
