## Trust breakdown

How this component scores in each security and reliability category. Every signal is checked automatically from public evidence about the published package, including repeated runs of it in an isolated sandbox, and we only credit what we can confirm. Scores are 0–100 per category. Scoring method: https://verifymcp.io/docs/scoring (what has changed: https://verifymcp.io/docs/scoring/changelog)

Scored 2026-11-05.

- **Supply Chain Security**: 100/100
  - No malware found by supply-chain analysis.
  - No known CVEs affecting this package version or its production dependencies.
  - No install/post-install scripts declared.
  - No production dependencies, so there is no dependency health to assess.
- **Provenance & Transparency**: 97/100
  - Source repository is publicly reachable at the declared URL.
  - Cryptographically verified build provenance (signed, bound to pipeworx-io/mcp-gov-auctions).
  - Clear OSI-approved license (MIT).
  - Actively maintained (last published 3 days ago).
  - Security-disclosure policy not yet verified: we couldn't inspect the source repository.
- **Schema Quality & AI Usability**: 70/100
  - AI-judged instruction clarity (excellent).
  - Context-footprint check failed: tool/resource definitions use about 834 tokens (~166/item across 5 items; 5 tools + 0 resources), over budget; trim descriptions and params.
  - Usage-examples check failed: none of the tools include examples.
- **Stability & Change Management**: 23/100
  - Stability observed for 7 of 30 days with no destabilising changes; credit accrues until the full window elapses.
- **Tool Coverage**: 100/100
  - 100% of tools have a non-trivial description (not blank, and not just the tool's name).
  - 100% of tool parameters carry a description.
- **Tool Safety**: 100/100
  - No prompt-injection markers were found in the server instructions, tool names or descriptions we captured.
  - We read all 5 captured tool definition(s), and no name or description among them implies an irreversible operation.
  - An AI judge read all 6 captured unit(s) of tool text and found none that tries to manipulate the model reading it.
- **Capabilities**: 100/100
  - Implements a supported MCP spec version (2025-11-25); the latest is 2026-07-28.

No change was recorded against any check on this day. Stability & Change Management went from 17 to 20. That category is still filling its 30-day observation window: 5 days of observed history at the previous scan, 6 at this one. The score rises as the window fills, whether or not the server changes.

## MCP tools (5)

### `auctions_search` (~302 tokens)

Search live US government auction lots for physical assets sold to the public — surplus vehicles, heavy equipment, real estate, electronics — from state/local governments (GovDeals, AllSurplus) and IRS seized/forfeited property. Filter by free-text keyword (matched on the item title, e.g. "truck", "excavator", "pickup"), 2-letter state, asset_type (vehicle|equipment|realestate|electronics|other), max_price (current bid ceiling), and closing_within_hours. Returns each lot with source, title, location, current bid, close time, and a link. For historical sold prices use auctions_sold_comps instead.

Input parameters:

- `asset_type` (string): One of: vehicle | equipment | realestate | electronics | other.
- `closing_within_hours` (number|string): Only lots closing within this many hours from now.
- `keyword` (string): Free-text matched (case-insensitive) against the lot title, e.g. "truck", "forklift", "generator".
- `limit` (number|string): Max lots (1-100, default 25).
- `max_price` (number|string): Only lots whose current bid is at or below this.
- `source` (string): Restrict to one source: govdeals | allsurplus | irs.
- `state` (string): 2-letter state code of the item location, e.g. "TX", "CA".

### `auctions_closing_soon` (~136 tokens)

Live government auction lots ordered by soonest close time — the "what can I still bid on before it ends" view across all sources (GovDeals, AllSurplus, IRS). Optionally filter by state, asset_type, or keyword. Returns lots with time remaining, current bid, location, and link.

Input parameters:

- `asset_type` (string): One of: vehicle | equipment | realestate | electronics | other.
- `keyword` (string): Free-text title match.
- `limit` (number|string): Max lots (1-100, default 25).
- `state` (string): 2-letter state code.

### `auction_lot_details` (~111 tokens)

Full details for a single government auction lot, looked up by its source + source_lot_id (as returned by auctions_search) or by its listing URL. Returns title, description, category, location, bid, close time, seller agency, and link.

Input parameters:

- `source` (string): Lot source: govdeals | allsurplus | irs.
- `source_lot_id` (string): The lot id within that source.
- `url` (string): Alternatively, the full listing URL.

### `auctions_sold_comps` (~181 tokens)

Historical SOLD prices for government auction items — the final hammer price of closed lots, which no upstream site keeps but Pipeworx retains. Use to answer "what do seized pickup trucks actually sell for" or to comp an asset. Filter by keyword (title match), asset_type, and/or state. Returns count, min/median/max/average final price, and recent examples. Only includes lots that have closed with a recorded final price.

Input parameters:

- `asset_type` (string): One of: vehicle | equipment | realestate | electronics | other.
- `keyword` (string): Free-text title match, e.g. "f-150", "excavator", "trailer".
- `limit` (number|string): Max example lots to return (1-50, default 10).
- `state` (string): 2-letter state code.

### `auctions_coverage` (~49 tokens)

Which government-auction data is currently available: per-source active lot counts and data freshness (when each source was last refreshed). Use to gauge coverage and how current the data is before relying on it.

## Common questions

### What is the Gov Auctions MCP server?

Gov Auctions is an MCP server listed in the public MCP registry as io.github.pipeworx-io/gov-auctions. Government Auctions MCP, physical-asset auctions (surplus, seized, forfeited, tax-deed) that… This page covers its npm package (@pipeworx/mcp-gov-auctions).

### Is the Gov Auctions MCP server safe to use?

Gov Auctions scores 83 out of 100 on VerifyMCP. We found no known CVEs affecting it as of 5 November 2026. It declares no install or post-install scripts. Its build provenance is signed and verified. That is a record of what we were able to check automatically, not an endorsement. The category breakdown on this page shows every signal behind the number, including the ones we could not confirm.

### What tools does the Gov Auctions MCP server expose?

Gov Auctions exposes 5 tools: auctions_search, auctions_closing_soon, auction_lot_details, auctions_sold_comps, auctions_coverage. Their descriptions and schemas cost roughly 779 tokens of context every time the server is loaded.

### Is the Gov Auctions MCP server still maintained?

Gov Auctions is still listed as active in the MCP registry. We last reached this channel on 5 November 2026. Those dates come from our own scans of the registry and the channel itself, not from anything the publisher announced.

### What licence is the Gov Auctions MCP server under?

Gov Auctions declares the MIT licence, which is OSI-approved. That covers the source only, and says nothing about the cost of any service it calls.

### What did VerifyMCP test on the Gov Auctions MCP server?

VerifyMCP ran 15 checks on Gov Auctions, covering Malware scan, Known CVEs, Install scripts, Dependency health and 11 more. One item could not be completed, a gap on our side rather than a finding about Gov Auctions: Security disclosure. Endpoint Security and Transport & Reachability do not apply to an npm package, so they were not tested. The score does not measure everything, and the scoring documentation lists what it leaves out.
