## Trust breakdown

How this component scores in each security and reliability category. Every signal is checked automatically from public evidence about the published package, including repeated runs of it in an isolated sandbox, and we only credit what we can confirm. Scores are 0–100 per category. Scoring method: https://verifymcp.io/docs/scoring (what has changed: https://verifymcp.io/docs/scoring/changelog)

Scored 2026-11-05.

- **Supply Chain Security**: 100/100
  - No malware found by supply-chain analysis.
  - No known CVEs affecting this package version or its production dependencies.
  - No install/post-install scripts declared.
  - No production dependencies, so there is no dependency health to assess.
- **Provenance & Transparency**: 97/100
  - Source repository is publicly reachable at the declared URL.
  - Cryptographically verified build provenance (signed, bound to pipeworx-io/mcp-bls).
  - Clear OSI-approved license (MIT).
  - Actively maintained (last published 5 days ago).
  - Disclosure check failed: no security disclosure policy was found in the source repository.
- **Schema Quality & AI Usability**: 66/100
  - AI-judged instruction clarity (good).
  - Context-footprint check failed: tool/resource definitions use about 1127 tokens (~187/item across 6 items; 6 tools + 0 resources), over budget; trim descriptions and params.
  - Usage-examples check failed: none of the tools include examples.
- **Stability & Change Management**: 23/100
  - Stability observed for 7 of 30 days with no destabilising changes; credit accrues until the full window elapses.
- **Tool Coverage**: 100/100
  - 100% of tools have a non-trivial description (not blank, and not just the tool's name).
  - 100% of tool parameters carry a description.
- **Tool Safety**: 100/100
  - No prompt-injection markers were found in the server instructions, tool names or descriptions we captured.
  - We read all 6 captured tool definition(s), and no name or description among them implies an irreversible operation.
  - An AI judge read all 7 captured unit(s) of tool text and found none that tries to manipulate the model reading it.
- **Capabilities**: 100/100
  - Implements a supported MCP spec version (2025-11-25); the latest is 2026-07-28.

## MCP tools (6)

### `bls_get_series` (~214 tokens)

Fetch historical time series data for employment, inflation, wages, productivity, or housing. Returns dated data points with values. Provide a BLS series ID (e.g., "CES0000000001" for total nonfarm payroll employment, the headline Employment Situation jobs number; "LNS14000000" for the unemployment rate). "PAYEMS" is the FRED id for the same series, not a BLS id.

Input parameters:

- `_apiKey` (string): BLS registration key (optional, increases rate limits)
- `end_year` (string): End year (e.g., "2024"). Default: current year.
- `series_id` (string, required): BLS series ID (e.g., "LNS14000000" for unemployment rate). For multiple series, comma-separate them (e.g., "LNS14000000,CES0000000001").
- `start_year` (string): Start year (e.g., "2023"). Default: current year minus 2.

### `bls_search` (~70 tokens)

Search BLS economic data series by keyword. Returns matching series IDs and titles. Use bls_get_series with an ID to fetch historical data points.

Input parameters:

- `keyword` (string, required): Keyword to search for (e.g., "rent", "construction", "unemployment", "CPI", "housing")

### `bls_latest` (~74 tokens)

Get the most recent data point for a BLS series. Returns latest value and date. Use when you need current figures without historical context.

Input parameters:

- `_apiKey` (string): BLS registration key (optional)
- `series_id` (string, required): BLS series ID (e.g., "LNS14000000")

### `bls_popular_series` (~69 tokens)

Browse popular BLS series by category: employment, inflation, wages, housing, productivity. Returns series IDs and descriptions. Start here to explore available data.

Input parameters:

- `category` (string): Filter by category: housing, employment, prices, wages, productivity (optional, returns all if omitted)

### `bls_local_unemployment` (~328 tokens)

Look up the current LOCAL-AREA unemployment rate (or employment/labor force) for a US county, metro area (MSA), or city/town by NAME — e.g. "Wake County, NC", "Cary, North Carolina", "Fargo-Moorhead MSA". Resolves the place to its BLS LAUS series id (bls_get_series cannot do this; it needs a series ID, not a place name) and returns recent monthly data. Falls back to the county when a city is below the LAUS city-reporting threshold, and says so. Data is NOT seasonally adjusted.

Input parameters:

- `_apiKey` (string): BLS registration key (optional, increases rate limits)
- `measure` (string): One of: "rate" (unemployment rate, default), "unemployment" (level), "employment" (level), "labor_force" (level).
- `months` (number): How many most-recent monthly observations to return. Default 12.
- `place` (string, required): Place name: a county ("Wake County"), metro area ("Fargo-Moorhead MSA", "Raleigh-Cary MSA"), or city/town ("Cary"). Include "County" or "MSA"/"Metro" in the name to disambiguate the kind when it matt…
- `state` (string): US state, 2-letter code or full name (e.g. "NC" or "North Carolina"). Optional if already included in `place` (e.g. "Cary, NC").

### `bls_occupation_projections` (~320 tokens)

Official US Employment Projections by occupation (SOC code): projected 10-year employment growth (number and percent), annual average job openings, current employment, median annual wage, and typical entry education, experience and training, from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, Employment Projections program. Look up an occupation by SOC code ("15-1252") or title words ("software developers"), or rank all detailed occupations by growth, openings or wage. Answers "projected growth for registered nurses", "which occupations have the most annual openings", "fastest growing jobs". Employment and openings are in thousands. Always reports the projection vintage (base and target year) of the latest release.

Input parameters:

- `direction` (string): With rank_by or a query list: highest (default) or lowest first, e.g. fastest declining.
- `limit` (number): Max occupations returned (default 10, max 50).
- `min_employment_thousands` (number): For rankings: ignore occupations employing fewer than this many thousand workers (default 0).
- `query` (string): Words from the occupation title, e.g. "nurse practitioners". Matches every word.
- `rank_by` (string): Instead of a lookup, rank detailed occupations by this measure, highest first (default listing when neither soc_code nor query is given: openings).
- `soc_code` (string): SOC code, e.g. "15-1252" (detailed), "15-1200" or "15-0000" (summary/major group).

### What is the Bls MCP server?

Bls is an MCP server listed in the public MCP registry as io.github.pipeworx-io/bls. BLS MCP, Bureau of Labor Statistics public data API (v2). This page covers its npm package (@pipeworx/mcp-bls).

### Is the Bls MCP server safe to use?

Bls scores 83 out of 100 on VerifyMCP. We found no known CVEs affecting it as of 5 November 2026. It declares no install or post-install scripts. Its build provenance is signed and verified. That is a record of what we were able to check automatically, not an endorsement. The category breakdown on this page shows every signal behind the number, including the ones we could not confirm.

### What tools does the Bls MCP server expose?

Bls exposes 6 tools: bls_get_series, bls_search, bls_latest, bls_popular_series, bls_local_unemployment, bls_occupation_projections. Their descriptions and schemas cost roughly 1,075 tokens of context every time the server is loaded.

### Is the Bls MCP server still maintained?

Bls is still listed as active in the MCP registry. We last reached this channel on 5 November 2026. Those dates come from our own scans of the registry and the channel itself, not from anything the publisher announced.
