## Trust breakdown

How this component scores in each security and reliability category. Every signal is checked automatically from public evidence about the published package, including repeated runs of it in an isolated sandbox, and we only credit what we can confirm. Scores are 0–100 per category. Scoring method: https://verifymcp.io/docs/scoring (what has changed: https://verifymcp.io/docs/scoring/changelog)

Scored 2026-11-05.

- **Supply Chain Security**: 100/100
  - No malware found by supply-chain analysis.
  - No known CVEs affecting this package version or its production dependencies.
  - No install/post-install scripts declared.
  - No production dependencies, so there is no dependency health to assess.
- **Provenance & Transparency**: 97/100
  - Source repository is publicly reachable at the declared URL.
  - Cryptographically verified build provenance (signed, bound to pipeworx-io/mcp-aviation-weather).
  - Clear OSI-approved license (MIT).
  - Actively maintained (last published 5 days ago).
  - Security-disclosure policy not yet verified: we couldn't inspect the source repository.
- **Schema Quality & AI Usability**: 76/100
  - AI-judged instruction clarity (good).
  - Tool/resource definitions use about 894 tokens (~111/item across 8 items; 8 tools + 0 resources), lean.
  - Usage-examples check failed: none of the tools include examples.
- **Stability & Change Management**: 23/100
  - Stability observed for 7 of 30 days with no destabilising changes; credit accrues until the full window elapses.
- **Tool Coverage**: 96/100
  - 100% of tools have a non-trivial description (not blank, and not just the tool's name).
  - 89% of tool parameters carry a description.
- **Tool Safety**: 100/100
  - No prompt-injection markers were found in the server instructions, tool names or descriptions we captured.
  - We read all 8 captured tool definition(s), and no name or description among them implies an irreversible operation.
  - An AI judge read all 9 captured unit(s) of tool text and found none that tries to manipulate the model reading it.
- **Capabilities**: 100/100
  - Implements a supported MCP spec version (2025-11-25); the latest is 2026-07-28.

## MCP tools (8)

### `metar` (~166 tokens)

Real-time airport weather station observations (METAR report): current temperature, dew point, wind, visibility, cloud ceiling, altimeter, straight from that airport's own sensor. For airport-station temperature/conditions questions, e.g. current temperature at SFO/KSFO, ORD/KORD, LHR/EGLL. ids = comma-sep ICAO codes (KSFO,EGLL,LFPG).

Input parameters:

- `format` (string): json (default) | raw | xml | html
- `hours_before` (number): How far back to look, 1-24 (default 1)
- `ids` (string, required): Comma-separated ICAO airport codes (4 letters, e.g. KSFO,EGLL,LFPG) — not IATA codes.

### `taf` (~170 tokens)

Terminal Aerodrome Forecast (TAF) for one or more ICAO airport codes (e.g. KSFO,EGLL); returns forecast periods covering wind, visibility, and cloud ceilings for the next 24–30 h.

Input parameters:

- `date` (string): Optional. ISO-8601 UTC instant (e.g. "2026-08-20T12:00:00Z") to retrieve the TAF that was valid then. Omit for the current forecast — the TAF already covers the next 24–30 h, so there is no lookback-…
- `format` (string): json (default) | raw
- `ids` (string, required): Comma-separated ICAO codes (4 letters, e.g. KSFO,EGLL) — not IATA codes.

### `pirep` (~185 tokens)

Pilot reports (PIREPs). Call with no args for recent US-wide reports (default CONUS box), or pass a station `id` for reports within `distance_nm` of it, or a custom `bbox`.

Input parameters:

- `age` (number): Lookback hours, default 1.5
- `bbox` (string): Bounding box "minLat,minLon,maxLat,maxLon" (default CONUS "20,-130,55,-60" when no id).
- `distance_nm` (number): Radius from `id` in nautical miles (default 200). Only used with `id`.
- `format` (string): json (default) | raw
- `id` (string): Center station for a proximity filter (e.g. "KORD"); reports within distance_nm of it.
- `level` (number): Flight level filter (FL310 = 310)

### `sigmet` (~56 tokens)

Fetch all currently active SIGMETs (significant en-route weather hazards: convection, turbulence, icing, volcanic ash) from the US Aviation Weather Center; no inputs required.

Input parameters:

- `format` (string): json (default) | raw

### `airmet` (~54 tokens)

Fetch all currently active AIRMETs (moderate turbulence, icing, IFR/mountain-obscuration advisories for general aviation) from the US Aviation Weather Center; no inputs required.

Input parameters:

- `format` (string)

### `gairmet` (~81 tokens)

Fetch Graphical AIRMETs from the US Aviation Weather Center; optionally filter by type (turb, ice, sfc_winds, lifr, ifr); returns GeoJSON-style hazard polygons.

Input parameters:

- `format` (string)
- `type` (string): turb | ice | sfc_winds | lifr | ifr (default any)

### `windsaloft` (~94 tokens)

Winds and temperatures aloft forecast from the US Aviation Weather Center; specify US region (us/bos/mia/chi/dfw/slc/sfo/alaska) and level (low/high); returns an ASCII table or JSON.

Input parameters:

- `level` (string): low | high (default low)
- `region` (string): us | bos | mia | chi | dfw | slc | sfo | alaska

### `stationinfo` (~34 tokens)

Aerodrome metadata — lat/lon, elevation, country.

Input parameters:

- `ids` (string, required): Comma-separated ICAO codes

## Common questions

### What is the Aviation Weather MCP server?

Aviation Weather is an MCP server listed in the public MCP registry as io.github.pipeworx-io/aviation-weather. Aviation Weather MCP, METAR, TAF, PIREPs, AIRMET/SIGMET, station info. This page covers its npm package (@pipeworx/mcp-aviation-weather).

### Is the Aviation Weather MCP server safe to use?

Aviation Weather scores 84 out of 100 on VerifyMCP. We found no known CVEs affecting it as of 5 November 2026. It declares no install or post-install scripts. Its build provenance is signed and verified. That is a record of what we were able to check automatically, not an endorsement. The category breakdown on this page shows every signal behind the number, including the ones we could not confirm.

### What tools does the Aviation Weather MCP server expose?

Aviation Weather exposes 8 tools: metar, taf, pirep, sigmet, airmet, and 3 more. Their descriptions and schemas cost roughly 840 tokens of context every time the server is loaded.

### Is the Aviation Weather MCP server still maintained?

Aviation Weather is still listed as active in the MCP registry. We last reached this channel on 5 November 2026. Those dates come from our own scans of the registry and the channel itself, not from anything the publisher announced.

### What licence is the Aviation Weather MCP server under?

Aviation Weather declares the MIT licence, which is OSI-approved. That covers the source only, and says nothing about the cost of any service it calls.
