## Trust breakdown

How this component scores in each security and reliability category. Every signal is checked automatically against the live server, and we only credit what we can confirm. Scores are 0–100 per category. Scoring method: https://verifymcp.io/docs/scoring (what has changed: https://verifymcp.io/docs/scoring/changelog)

Scored 2026-11-05.

- **Endpoint Security**: 77/100
  - The endpoint's TLS certificate is valid, in date, and uses a strong key.
  - No authorisation is required to call this server. Every tool declares its destructiveHint and none is destructive, so open access doesn't expose one.
  - HTTPS is enforced; there's no plaintext access path.
  - HSTS check failed: the Strict-Transport-Security header is absent.
  - DNSSEC is configured correctly; the domain's records validate against the full chain to the root.
- **Transport & Reachability**: 100/100
  - Verified streamable-http transport via a live MCP handshake.
- **Schema Quality & AI Usability**: 67/100
  - AI-judged instruction clarity (excellent).
  - Context-footprint check failed: tool/resource definitions use about 1091 tokens (~181/item across 6 items; 6 tools + 0 resources), over budget; trim descriptions and params.
  - Usage-examples check failed: none of the tools include examples.
- **Stability & Change Management**: 53/100
  - Stability observed for 16 of 30 days with no destabilising changes; credit accrues until the full window elapses.
- **Tool Coverage**: 100/100
  - 100% of tools have a non-trivial description (not blank, and not just the tool's name).
  - 100% of tool parameters carry a description.
- **Tool Safety**: 100/100
  - No prompt-injection markers were found in the server instructions, tool names or descriptions we captured.
  - We read all 6 captured tool definition(s), and no name or description among them implies an irreversible operation.
  - An AI judge read all 7 captured unit(s) of tool text and found none that tries to manipulate the model reading it.
- **Capabilities**: 100/100
  - Implements a current MCP spec version (2026-07-28).

The mcpServers block is a cross-client convention. Remote transports vary, so check your client's docs.

## Changelog

Every change recorded for this component, newest first. Days that predate change tracking, or that we cannot explain, say so: "we were watching and nothing happened" and "we were not watching" are different claims.

## MCP tools (6)

### `search_indicators` (~194 tokens)

Search economic indicators

Searches the EconDash catalogue by keyword, for example GDP and growth, inflation, unemployment and wages, population, life expectancy, interest and exchange rates, government debt, trade, house prices, oil, gold and metal prices, stock indices, energy, health, education and internet use. Use it when the user asks for a statistic for a country or region: its latest value, history or a comparison. Returns up to 25 matches with the slug, name, unit, frequency, source and years covered. The slug is the input for get_indicator_series, compare_countries and get_indicator_details. The catalogue has no series for individual shares or cryptocurrencies (only the Crypto Fear & Greed Index), tax rates, steel or the Baltic Dry Index.

Input parameters:

- `limit` (integer): Maximum number of results.
- `query` (string, required): Words to search for, for example 'inflation' or 'gdp per capita'.

### `get_indicator_series` (~310 tokens)

Get indicator series

Returns values of one indicator for one country or region. A call returns at most 30 annual, 40 quarterly, 120 monthly, 52 weekly, 250 daily values (about 30 years of annual data, 10 years of quarterly or monthly, one year of weekly or daily). Without years: the latest observed values. With start_year and/or end_year: the values in that range; when the range holds more, the latest ones are returned and truncated is true. With year: one value for that year (the last period of that year for monthly or quarterly data). Includes the unit, source, licence, the range of periods with data and a link to the EconDash chart page that shows the full history. Projections such as IMF forecasts are labelled; without end_year or year, the series stops at the latest observed value and the nearest projection comes in a separate next_projection field. Country is an ISO 3166-1 alpha-3 code.

Input parameters:

- `country` (string, required): ISO 3166-1 alpha-3 code, for example USA, DEU, ARG, or WLD for the world.
- `end_year`: Last calendar year of the series; projections up to this year are included.
- `indicator` (string, required): Indicator slug from search_indicators, for example cpi-inflation.
- `start_year`: First calendar year of the series.
- `year`: Calendar year for a single value. Omit to get a series.

### `get_full_series` (~215 tokens)

Get full indicator history

Returns the whole history of one indicator for one country or region, up to 1500 values per call, for people signed in to EconDash with full data access; other signed-in accounts get as many values as get_indicator_series. Needs sign-in to EconDash. Without years: the history up to the latest observed value, with the nearest projection in next_projection. With start_year and/or end_year: the values in that range, the latest ones and truncated true when it holds more. Same fields as get_indicator_series.

### `compare_countries` (~117 tokens)

Compare countries

Returns one value of one indicator for up to 20 countries or regions: for the given year, or the latest observed value in each country when no year is given. Each value has its own period and chart link; projections are labelled. Codes without data are listed separately.

Input parameters:

- `countries` (array, required): ISO3 codes of the countries or regions to compare.
- `indicator` (string, required): Indicator slug from search_indicators, for example cpi-inflation.
- `year`: Calendar year. Omit for the latest observed value.

### `get_indicator_details` (~65 tokens)

Get indicator details

Returns the description, unit, frequency, source, publisher, licence, attribution text, coverage in years and countries, and the time of the last data change for one indicator.

Input parameters:

- `indicator` (string, required): Indicator slug from search_indicators, for example cpi-inflation.

### `list_countries` (~51 tokens)

List countries and regions

Lists the countries and regional aggregates in EconDash as ISO 3166-1 alpha-3 codes with names. Regions include World Bank groups such as WLD (World) and EUU (European Union).

## Common questions

### What is the EconDash MCP server?

EconDash is an MCP server listed in the public MCP registry as org.econdash/econdash. Free, read-only economic indicators for any country from the World Bank, IMF, FRED, OECD and others. This page covers its hosted endpoint (https://mcp.econdash.org/mcp).

### Is the EconDash MCP server safe to use?

EconDash scores 78 out of 100 on VerifyMCP. That is a record of what we were able to check automatically, not an endorsement. The category breakdown on this page shows every signal behind the number, including the ones we could not confirm.

### What tools does the EconDash MCP server expose?

EconDash exposes 6 tools: search_indicators, get_indicator_series, get_full_series, compare_countries, get_indicator_details, list_countries. Their descriptions and schemas cost roughly 952 tokens of context every time the server is loaded.

### Does the EconDash MCP server require authentication?

No. We connected to EconDash without credentials and it answered, so anything it exposes is reachable by anyone who knows the address.

### Is the EconDash MCP server still maintained?

EconDash is still listed as active in the MCP registry. We last reached this channel on 5 November 2026. Those dates come from our own scans of the registry and the channel itself, not from anything the publisher announced.
