## Trust breakdown

How this component scores in each security and reliability category. Every signal is checked automatically against the live server, and we only credit what we can confirm. Scores are 0–100 per category. Scoring method: https://verifymcp.io/docs/scoring (what has changed: https://verifymcp.io/docs/scoring/changelog)

Scored 2026-10-23.

- **Endpoint Security**: 83/100
  - The endpoint's TLS certificate is valid, in date, and uses a strong key.
  - No authorisation is required to call this server. Every tool declares its destructiveHint and none is destructive, so open access doesn't expose one.
  - HTTPS is enforced; there's no plaintext access path.
  - The HSTS (Strict-Transport-Security) header is present.
  - DNSSEC is configured correctly; the domain's records validate against the full chain to the root.
- **Transport & Reachability**: 100/100
  - Verified streamable-http transport via a live MCP handshake.
- **Schema Quality & AI Usability**: 67/100
  - AI-judged instruction clarity (excellent).
  - Context-footprint check failed: tool/resource definitions use about 759 tokens (~253/item across 3 items; 3 tools + 0 resources), over budget; trim descriptions and params.
  - Usage-examples check failed: none of the tools include examples.
- **Stability & Change Management**: 27/100
  - Stability observed for 8 of 30 days with no destabilising changes; credit accrues until the full window elapses.
- **Tool Coverage**: 100/100
  - 100% of tools have a non-trivial description (not blank, and not just the tool's name).
  - 100% of tool parameters carry a description.
- **Tool Safety**: 100/100
  - No prompt-injection markers were found in the server instructions, tool names or descriptions we captured.
  - We read all 3 captured tool definition(s), and no name or description among them implies an irreversible operation.
  - An AI judge read all 4 captured unit(s) of tool text and found none that tries to manipulate the model reading it.
- **Capabilities**: 60/100
  - Spec-recency check failed: implements MCP spec 2025-06-18; the latest is 2026-07-28.

      "type": "http",
      "url": "https://www.barcodegen.net/mcp"

The mcpServers block is a cross-client convention. Remote transports vary, so check your client's docs.

## Changelog

Every change recorded for this component, newest first. Days that predate change tracking, or that we cannot explain, say so: "we were watching and nothing happened" and "we were not watching" are different claims.

### 2026-10-23 (score 75, +3)

- [security improvement] HSTS header: fail → pass

### 2026-10-20 (score 72, +1)

No change was recorded against any check on this day. Stability & Change Management went from 13 to 17. That category is still filling its 30-day observation window: 4 days of observed history at the previous scan, 5 at this one. The score rises as the window fills, whether or not the server changes.

### 2026-10-18 (score 71, +1)

No change was recorded against any check on this day. Stability & Change Management went from 7 to 10. That category is still filling its 30-day observation window: 2 days of observed history at the previous scan, 3 at this one. The score rises as the window fills, whether or not the server changes.

### 2026-10-16 (score 70, +1)

- [functional improvement] Stability: unverified → 0.03

### 2026-10-15 (score 69)

First indexed and scored.

## MCP tools (3)

### `generate_barcode` (~328 tokens)

Generate barcode

Encode a value into any of 35 barcode and QR symbologies and return the rendered image. Supports QR Code, Data Matrix, PDF417, Aztec, EAN-13, UPC-A, Code 128/39/93, ITF-14 and more. Returns SVG markup by default (or a data: URI when asked), plus a link to the online generator pre-filled with the same value. Use "type" with the canonical name from list_barcode_types; common spellings like "qr" or "code-128" are accepted. Linear formats such as EAN-13 enforce strict charset and length rules and will fail on invalid input.

Input parameters:

- `caption` (string): Optional human-readable text drawn under the symbol. Defaults to the value itself.
- `errorCorrection` (string): QR error-correction level. Higher levels survive more damage but produce a denser symbol. Ignored by linear formats.
- `format` (string): Output encoding. "svg" returns XML markup; "data-uri" returns a ready-to-embed data: URL.
- `height` (number): Symbol height in pixels (linear formats mainly).
- `showText` (boolean): Draw the human-readable caption under the symbol.
- `type` (string, required): Barcode symbology, e.g. "Qrcode", "Ean13", "Code128", "Datamatrix", "Pdf417", "gs1-128".
- `value` (string, required): The data to encode — a URL, product number, tracking code, phone number, Wi-Fi string, etc.

### `list_barcode_types` (~137 tokens)

List barcode types

List every symbology this server can generate (35 formats), grouped by family, with a one-line summary and sample data for each. Call this first when you are unsure which "type" to pass to generate_barcode. Optionally narrow by family (e.g. "EAN / UPC", "2D Barcodes") or category ("linear", "stacked", "2d").

Input parameters:

- `category` (string): Restrict to one structural class of symbology.
- `family` (string): Case-insensitive substring match on the family name, e.g. "Code 128", "2D", "EAN".

### `get_barcode_type` (~119 tokens)

Get barcode type details

Return the full technical reference for one symbology: character set, data length, check digit rules, X-dimension and quiet-zone guidance, print ratio, magnification, governing standard, inventor and year, typical applications, FAQ, and related formats. Use this to pick a format for a requirement, or to find out why generate_barcode rejected a value.

Input parameters:

- `type` (string, required): Barcode symbology to look up, e.g. "Qrcode", "Ean13", "gs1-128", "pdf417".

## Common questions

### What is the Barcode Generator MCP server?

Barcode Generator is an MCP server listed in the public MCP registry as net.barcodegen/barcode-generator. Generate barcodes and QR codes in 35 symbologies: QR, Data Matrix, PDF417, EAN-13, Code 128, more. This page covers its hosted endpoint (https://www.barcodegen.net/mcp).

### Is the Barcode Generator MCP server safe to use?

Barcode Generator scores 75 out of 100 on VerifyMCP. That is a record of what we were able to check automatically, not an endorsement. The category breakdown on this page shows every signal behind the number, including the ones we could not confirm.

### What tools does the Barcode Generator MCP server expose?

Barcode Generator exposes 3 tools: generate_barcode, list_barcode_types, get_barcode_type. Their descriptions and schemas cost roughly 584 tokens of context every time the server is loaded.

### Does the Barcode Generator MCP server require authentication?

No. We connected to Barcode Generator without credentials and it answered, so anything it exposes is reachable by anyone who knows the address.

### Is the Barcode Generator MCP server still maintained?

Barcode Generator is still listed as active in the MCP registry. We last reached this channel on 23 October 2026. Those dates come from our own scans of the registry and the channel itself, not from anything the publisher announced.
