## Trust breakdown

How this component scores in each security and reliability category. Every signal is checked automatically against the live server, and we only credit what we can confirm. Scores are 0–100 per category. Scoring method: https://verifymcp.io/docs/scoring (what has changed: https://verifymcp.io/docs/scoring/changelog)

Scored 2026-10-24.

- **Endpoint Security**: 80/100
  - The endpoint's TLS certificate is valid, in date, and uses a strong key.
  - No authorisation is required to call this server. Every tool declares its destructiveHint and none is destructive, so open access doesn't expose one.
  - HTTPS is enforced; there's no plaintext access path.
  - The HSTS (Strict-Transport-Security) header is present.
  - DNSSEC check failed: this domain isn't protected by DNSSEC.
- **Transport & Reachability**: 100/100
  - Verified streamable-http transport via a live MCP handshake.
- **Schema Quality & AI Usability**: 77/100
  - 100% of prompts and resources have a non-trivial description (not blank, and not just the item's name).
  - AI-judged instruction clarity (good).
  - Context-footprint check failed: tool/resource definitions use about 817 tokens (~163/item across 5 items; 4 tools + 1 resources), over budget; trim descriptions and params.
  - Usage-examples check failed: none of the tools include examples.
- **Stability & Change Management**: 10/100
  - Stability observed for 3 of 30 days with no destabilising changes; credit accrues until the full window elapses.
- **Tool Coverage**: 93/100
  - 100% of tools have a non-trivial description (not blank, and not just the tool's name).
  - 79% of tool parameters carry a description.
- **Tool Safety**: 100/100
  - No prompt-injection markers were found in the server instructions, tool names or descriptions we captured.
  - We read all 4 captured tool definition(s), and no name or description among them implies an irreversible operation.
  - An AI judge read all 6 captured unit(s) of tool text and found none that tries to manipulate the model reading it.
- **Capabilities**: 100/100
  - Implements a current MCP spec version (2026-07-28).
  - Supports UI / widget rendering.

## Changelog

Every change recorded for this component, newest first. Days that predate change tracking, or that we cannot explain, say so: "we were watching and nothing happened" and "we were not watching" are different claims.

### 2026-10-24 (score 75, +1)

No change was recorded against any check on this day. Stability & Change Management went from 7 to 10. That category is still filling its 30-day observation window: 2 days of observed history at the previous scan, 3 at this one. The score rises as the window fills, whether or not the server changes.

### 2026-10-22 (score 74, +1)

- [functional improvement] Stability: unverified → 0.03

### 2026-10-21 (score 73)

First indexed and scored.

## MCP tools (4)

### `check_food` (~179 tokens)

Check a food product

Looks up a packaged food or drink in Open Food Facts (3M+ products) by barcode or by name and returns a 0-100 health score (Excellent / Good / Poor / Bad) with the reasons: nutrition (Nutri-Score), additives and their risk level, and how processed it is. For questions such as whether a product is healthy. A barcode gives the most precise match.

Input parameters:

- `barcode` (string): EAN/UPC barcode digits, e.g. 3017620422003.
- `country` (string): Optional country to prefer when searching by name, e.g. 'united-states', 'france', 'united-kingdom'.
- `query` (string): Product name, ideally with the brand, e.g. 'Nutella hazelnut spread'. Used when there is no barcode.

### `analyze_label` (~233 tokens)

Score a food from its label

Scores a food from its label: the ingredient list and/or the nutrition facts, for example from a photo of the packaging or pasted text, including products that aren't in the database. Most accurate with the ingredient list exactly as printed, including E-numbers and words in brackets. Nutrition values can be per 100 g or per serving (with the serving size). Returns the same 0-100 score and reports any missing data.

Input parameters:

- `brand` (string)
- `category` (string): Nutri-Score family. Use fat_oil_nuts_seeds for oils, butter, nuts and nut butters; cheese for cheese; red_meat for beef, pork or lamb products.
- `fruit_veg_percent` (number): % of fruit, vegetables and legumes, if the label states it.
- `ingredients_text` (string): The full ingredient list exactly as printed.
- `is_drink` (boolean): True for beverages (milk and plant drinks included). Values are then per 100 ml.
- `nutrition` (object): The nutrition facts table, copied exactly.
- `product_name` (string)

### `find_healthier_alternatives` (~82 tokens)

Find healthier alternatives

Finds similar products in the same Open Food Facts category that score clearly higher than the given product, best first, each with its score.

Input parameters:

- `barcode` (string, required): Barcode of the product to beat.
- `country` (string): Only suggest products sold in this country, e.g. 'united-states'.
- `limit` (integer)

### `explain_additive` (~75 tokens)

Explain a food additive

Explains what a food additive is, what it does, and its risk level with sources, by E-number (E250) or name (sodium nitrite, Red 40, carrageenan).

Input parameters:

- `additive` (string, required): E-number or name, e.g. 'E471' or 'Red 40'.

## Common questions

### What is the FoodChecker MCP server?

FoodChecker is an MCP server listed in the public MCP registry as io.github.kjagsadvisors/foodchecker. Is this food healthy? A 0-100 score from nutrition, additives and processing (Open Food Facts). This page covers its hosted endpoint (https://foodchecker-ebon.vercel.app/mcp).

### Is the FoodChecker MCP server safe to use?

FoodChecker scores 75 out of 100 on VerifyMCP. That is a record of what we were able to check automatically, not an endorsement. The category breakdown on this page shows every signal behind the number, including the ones we could not confirm.

### What tools does the FoodChecker MCP server expose?

FoodChecker exposes 4 tools: check_food, analyze_label, find_healthier_alternatives, explain_additive. Their descriptions and schemas cost roughly 569 tokens of context every time the server is loaded.

### Does the FoodChecker MCP server require authentication?

No. We connected to FoodChecker without credentials and it answered, so anything it exposes is reachable by anyone who knows the address.

### Is the FoodChecker MCP server still maintained?

FoodChecker is still listed as active in the MCP registry. We last reached this channel on 24 October 2026. Those dates come from our own scans of the registry and the channel itself, not from anything the publisher announced.
