## Trust breakdown

How this component scores in each security and reliability category. Every signal is checked automatically against the live server, and we only credit what we can confirm. Scores are 0–100 per category. Scoring method: https://verifymcp.io/docs/scoring (what has changed: https://verifymcp.io/docs/scoring/changelog)

Scored 2026-11-05.

- **Endpoint Security**: 100/100
  - The endpoint's TLS certificate is valid, in date, and uses a strong key.
  - Authorisation is enforced on tool calls, advertised via RFC 9728 protected-resource metadata. Discovery is public, which costs nothing: no tool can be invoked without a token.
  - HTTPS is enforced; there's no plaintext access path.
  - The HSTS (Strict-Transport-Security) header is present.
  - DNSSEC is configured correctly; the domain's records validate against the full chain to the root.
  - The authorisation server supports Client ID Metadata Documents, the current MCP client-registration mechanism.
- **Transport & Reachability**: 100/100
  - Verified streamable-http transport via a live MCP handshake.
- **Schema Quality & AI Usability**: 67/100
  - AI-judged instruction clarity (good).
  - Tool/resource definitions use about 1101 tokens (~68/item across 16 items; 16 tools + 0 resources), lean.
  - Usage-examples check failed: none of the tools include examples.
- **Stability & Change Management**: 60/100
  - Stability observed for 18 of 30 days with no destabilising changes; credit accrues until the full window elapses.
- **Tool Coverage**: 70/100
  - 100% of tools have a non-trivial description (not blank, and not just the tool's name).
  - 9% of tool parameters carry a description.
- **Tool Safety**: 100/100
  - No prompt-injection markers were found in the server instructions, tool names or descriptions we captured.
  - We read all 16 captured tool definition(s), and no name or description among them implies an irreversible operation.
  - An AI judge read all 17 captured unit(s) of tool text and found none that tries to manipulate the model reading it.
- **Capabilities**: 100/100
  - Implements a current MCP spec version (2026-07-28).

## MCP tools (16)

### `search_public_recipes` (~84 tokens)

Find public recipes

Use this when someone wants a recipe, cooking inspiration or an existing recipe from a creator, without an account. Searches published ReelsMeals recipes. For the user's own saved recipes use search_my_cookbook instead. Never treats public results as the user's cookbook.

Input parameters:

- `limit` (integer)
- `query` (string, required): Dish, ingredient, creator or cooking style

### `get_public_recipe` (~64 tokens)

Read a public recipe

Use this after search_public_recipes to read published ingredients and instructions. Cite reelsmealsUrl and the original creator/source. Does not read a private cookbook and does not invent missing steps or quantities.

Input parameters:

- `slug` (string, required): The slug returned by search_public_recipes

### `get_reelsmeals_setup` (~85 tokens)

Set up ReelsMeals

Use this when the user asks to save or import recipe links, migrate saved Instagram recipes, connect their cookbook, or create a ReelsMeals account. Returns setup links and the agent signup protocol. Public recipe search is free. Private cookbook actions require sign-in, user approval and a paid ReelsMeals plan. Does not create an account or charge anyone by itself.

### `search_my_cookbook` (~71 tokens)

Search my cookbook

Use this when the user asks about their own saved recipes, bookmarked meals or personal cookbook. Search by dish, tags, maker or description. For general recipe discovery use search_public_recipes. Requires a connected account and paid plan.

Input parameters:

- `limit` (integer)
- `query` (string, required)

### `list_recent_recipes` (~27 tokens)

List recent saved recipes

List the user's recently saved recipes in summary form.

Input parameters:

- `limit` (integer)

### `get_recipe` (~62 tokens)

Get a saved recipe

Use this after searching the user's cookbook to read one of their saved recipes in full by its returned id. Preserve stored ingredients and instructions; cite reelsmealsUrl and the source creator. Use get_public_recipe for an anonymous public result.

Input parameters:

- `id` (string, required)

### `import_recipe_from_url` (~74 tokens)

Import a recipe from URL

Use this when the user asks to import or save a supported recipe URL into their own cookbook. It writes to the cookbook and may enqueue extraction. For an entire saved Instagram collection or many links, use get_reelsmeals_setup for the batch import page instead. Ask before saving.

Input parameters:

- `url` (string, required)

### `update_recipe_tags` (~33 tokens)

Update recipe tags

Replace the user's custom tags for a saved recipe.

Input parameters:

- `id` (string, required)
- `tags` (array, required)

### `save_recipe_note` (~34 tokens)

Save recipe note

Save or replace a user note on a saved recipe.

Input parameters:

- `id` (string, required)
- `note` (string, required)

### `mark_recipe_cooked` (~38 tokens)

Mark recipe cooked

Record that the user cooked a saved recipe, optionally saving a note.

Input parameters:

- `id` (string, required)
- `note` (string)

### `plan_week_from_saved` (~71 tokens)

Plan the week from saved recipes

Choose this week's dinners from saved recipes and replace the previous plan ingredients on the shopping list. Keeps typed items. Does not persist a meal plan.

Input parameters:

- `dinners` (integer)
- `excludeRecipeIds` (array)
- `excludeTags` (array)
- `requireTags` (array)

### `create_weekly_meal_plan` (~89 tokens)

Create weekly meal plan

Use this only when the user asks to save a weekly dinner plan from their cookbook. It replaces the saved plan for that week, so confirm replacement first. For choosing dinners and updating only the shopping list use plan_week_from_saved.

Input parameters:

- `dinners` (integer)
- `excludeTags` (array)
- `requireTags` (array)
- `weekOf` (string)

### `build_shopping_list` (~56 tokens)

Build a shopping list

Read the stored shopping list, including typed items and basket ticks. An optional plan_id verifies ownership. Explicit recipe_ids preview ingredients without changing the list.

Input parameters:

- `plan_id` (string)
- `recipe_ids` (array)

### `get_kitchen_preferences` (~23 tokens)

Get kitchen preferences

Fetch household food preferences, constraints, equipment, and planning notes.

### `update_kitchen_preferences` (~152 tokens)

Update kitchen preferences

Update household food preferences, constraints, equipment, cooking goal, and planning notes. The ReelsMeals app edits the same record. Each list keeps up to 50 items; a new item longer than 80 characters is shortened, while items already stored are kept as they are.

Input parameters:

- `budgetNotes` (string)
- `dietaryTags` (array)
- `dislikedIngredients` (array)
- `equipment` (array)
- `goal` (string): What they want from cooking: cook_what_i_save, eat_healthier, spend_less or learn_to_cook.
- `householdSize` (integer)
- `notes` (string)
- `weeknightMaxMinutes` (integer)

### `get_agent_activity` (~29 tokens)

Get agent activity

Fetch recent ReelsMeals MCP tool activity for audit and replay.

Input parameters:

- `limit` (integer)

## Common questions

### What is the ReelsMeals MCP server?

ReelsMeals is an MCP server listed in the public MCP registry as io.github.jmqcooper/reelsmeals. Find free public recipes; import links and plan meals from your cookbook. Private tools need a plan. This page covers its hosted endpoint (https://reelsmeals.com/api/mcp).

### Is the ReelsMeals MCP server safe to use?

ReelsMeals scores 86 out of 100 on VerifyMCP. That is a record of what we were able to check automatically, not an endorsement. The category breakdown on this page shows every signal behind the number, including the ones we could not confirm.

### What tools does the ReelsMeals MCP server expose?

ReelsMeals exposes 16 tools: search_public_recipes, get_public_recipe, get_reelsmeals_setup, search_my_cookbook, list_recent_recipes, and 11 more. Their descriptions and schemas cost roughly 992 tokens of context every time the server is loaded.

### Does the ReelsMeals MCP server require authentication?

Yes. ReelsMeals asked us for credentials when we connected, so you will need to authorise it in your MCP client before it can do anything.

### Is the ReelsMeals MCP server still maintained?

ReelsMeals is still listed as active in the MCP registry. We last reached this channel on 5 November 2026. Those dates come from our own scans of the registry and the channel itself, not from anything the publisher announced.
