## Trust breakdown

How this component scores in each security and reliability category. Every signal is checked automatically against the live server, and we only credit what we can confirm. Scores are 0–100 per category. Scoring method: https://verifymcp.io/docs/scoring (what has changed: https://verifymcp.io/docs/scoring/changelog)

Scored 2026-11-05.

- **Endpoint Security**: 74/100
  - The endpoint's TLS certificate is valid, in date, and uses a strong key.
  - No authorisation is required to call this server. Every tool declares its destructiveHint and none is destructive, so open access doesn't expose one.
  - HTTPS is enforced; there's no plaintext access path.
  - HSTS check failed: the Strict-Transport-Security header is absent.
  - DNSSEC check failed: this domain isn't protected by DNSSEC.
- **Transport & Reachability**: 100/100
  - Verified streamable-http transport via a live MCP handshake.
- **Schema Quality & AI Usability**: 78/100
  - AI-judged instruction clarity (excellent).
  - Context-footprint check failed: tool/resource definitions use about 386 tokens (~193/item across 2 items; 2 tools + 0 resources), over budget; trim descriptions and params.
  - Usage-examples check failed: none of the tools include examples.
- **Stability & Change Management**: 37/100
  - Stability observed for 11 of 30 days with no destabilising changes; credit accrues until the full window elapses.
- **Tool Coverage**: 100/100
  - 100% of tools have a non-trivial description (not blank, and not just the tool's name).
  - 100% of tool parameters carry a description.
- **Tool Safety**: 100/100
  - No prompt-injection markers were found in the server instructions, tool names or descriptions we captured.
  - All 1 tool(s) whose name or description implies an irreversible operation declare an MCP destructiveHint annotation.
  - An AI judge read all 2 captured unit(s) of tool text and found none that tries to manipulate the model reading it.
- **Capabilities**: 100/100
  - Implements a supported MCP spec version (2025-11-25); the latest is 2026-07-28.

## Install

### How do I install the ShareNotes MCP server?

ShareNotes is a hosted endpoint at https://sharenotes.dev/api/mcp, so there is nothing to install locally. Ready-made configuration for Claude, Cursor, VS Code, Codex and 5 more is on this page, copied from each client's own documentation.

```bash
claude mcp add --transport http dev-sharenotes-notes 'https://sharenotes.dev/api/mcp'
```

### Cursor

```json
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "dev-sharenotes-notes": {
      "url": "https://sharenotes.dev/api/mcp"
    }
  }
}
```

      "type": "http",
      "url": "https://sharenotes.dev/api/mcp"

The mcpServers block is a cross-client convention. Remote transports vary, so check your client's docs.

## Changelog

Every change recorded for this component, newest first. Days that predate change tracking, or that we cannot explain, say so: "we were watching and nothing happened" and "we were not watching" are different claims.

## MCP tools (2)

### `create_note` (~235 tokens)

Create a ShareNotes link

Publish text as a note on sharenotes.dev and get back a short, human-readable link (like https://sharenotes.dev/blue-fox-42) to give to a person. Use it when the user wants to share text, code, logs or instructions with someone else, or move text to another device. Anyone with the link can read the note, and notes are stored on the server, not end-to-end encrypted — never use it for passwords, API keys or other secrets. The note expires after 7 days unless you set expiresIn. Set burnAfterRead for a note that is destroyed the first time a person opens it. Returns the link and the expiry time.

Input parameters:

- `burnAfterRead` (boolean): If true, the note is deleted the first time someone opens the link. Link previews in chat apps do not count.
- `content` (string, required): The text to publish. Plain text or Markdown. Up to 10 MB.
- `expiresIn` (string): How long the note lives. Defaults to 7d.
- `title` (string): Optional short title shown above the note.

### `read_note` (~151 tokens)

Read a ShareNotes note

Read the text of a note on sharenotes.dev, given its link (https://sharenotes.dev/blue-fox-42) or just its name (blue-fox-42). Use it when the user gives you a ShareNotes link and asks about its contents. Notes written in the ShareNotes web editor are returned as HTML. It does not open PIN-protected notes, and it does not open delete-after-reading notes, because opening one destroys it — for those, ask the user to open the link in a browser.

Input parameters:

- `note` (string, required): The note link, e.g. https://sharenotes.dev/blue-fox-42, or just blue-fox-42.

### What is the ShareNotes MCP server?

ShareNotes is an MCP server listed in the public MCP registry as dev.sharenotes/notes. Create and read text notes at memorable links like sharenotes.dev/blue-fox-42. No key, no account. This page covers its hosted endpoint (https://sharenotes.dev/api/mcp).

### Is the ShareNotes MCP server safe to use?

ShareNotes scores 77 out of 100 on VerifyMCP. That is a record of what we were able to check automatically, not an endorsement. The category breakdown on this page shows every signal behind the number, including the ones we could not confirm.

### What tools does the ShareNotes MCP server expose?

ShareNotes exposes 2 tools: create_note, read_note. Their descriptions and schemas cost roughly 386 tokens of context every time the server is loaded.

### Does the ShareNotes MCP server require authentication?

No. We connected to ShareNotes without credentials and it answered, so anything it exposes is reachable by anyone who knows the address.

### Is the ShareNotes MCP server still maintained?

ShareNotes is still listed as active in the MCP registry. We last reached this channel on 5 November 2026. Those dates come from our own scans of the registry and the channel itself, not from anything the publisher announced.
