## Trust breakdown

How this component scores in each security and reliability category. Every signal is checked automatically against the live server, and we only credit what we can confirm. Scores are 0–100 per category. Scoring method: https://verifymcp.io/docs/scoring (what has changed: https://verifymcp.io/docs/scoring/changelog)

Scored 2026-11-05.

- **Endpoint Security**: 83/100
  - The endpoint's TLS certificate is valid, in date, and uses a strong key.
  - No authorisation is required to call this server. Nothing on it is marked destructive, but we can't show that an anonymous caller can only read: full credit needs the server to list at least one tool and every tool to be verifiably read-only. We use a best-effort check of tool names and descriptions to tell read-only tools from tools that change things, so some genuinely read-only tools may not get full credit. Names that start with a read verb (get, list, read, search and similar) and accurate readOnlyHint annotations help. Meet that to earn full credit, or require authorisation.
  - HTTPS is enforced; there's no plaintext access path.
  - The HSTS (Strict-Transport-Security) header is present.
  - DNSSEC is configured correctly; the domain's records validate against the full chain to the root.
- **Transport & Reachability**: 100/100
  - Verified streamable-http transport via a live MCP handshake.
- **Schema Quality & AI Usability**: 56/100
  - AI-judged instruction clarity (good).
  - Context-footprint check failed: tool/resource definitions use about 1884 tokens (~314/item across 6 items; 6 tools + 0 resources), over budget; trim descriptions and params.
  - Usage-examples check failed: none of the tools include examples.
- **Stability & Change Management**: 60/100
  - Stability observed for 18 of 30 days with no destabilising changes; credit accrues until the full window elapses.
- **Tool Coverage**: 100/100
  - 100% of tools have a non-trivial description (not blank, and not just the tool's name).
  - 100% of tool parameters carry a description.
- **Tool Safety**: 100/100
  - No prompt-injection markers were found in the server instructions, tool names or descriptions we captured.
  - We read all 6 captured tool definition(s), and no name or description among them implies an irreversible operation.
  - An AI judge read all 7 captured unit(s) of tool text and found none that tries to manipulate the model reading it.
- **Capabilities**: 100/100
  - Implements a supported MCP spec version (2025-11-25); the latest is 2026-07-28.

## MCP tools (6)

### `estimate_federal_tax` (~749 tokens)

Estimate federal income and self-employment tax

Estimates a year's U.S. federal income tax plus self-employment tax, the refund or balance due after withholding and estimated payments, marginal and effective rates, a bracket-by-bracket breakdown and, when prior-year figures are given, the safe-harbor quarterly estimated payment. Also answers 'how much more can I earn, withdraw from a 401(k) or convert to a Roth IRA before the next bracket': the room left in the current bracket, the room before qualified dividends / long-term gains lose the 0% rate, and the tax on a planned extra amount. Uses the standard deduction (with the age-65+ addition) unless larger itemized deductions are given; the 2025–2028 $6,000 senior deduction per person 65+ with phase-out (not available when married filing separately); qualified dividends and long-term gains at 0%/15%/20%; child tax credit with phase-out; Social Security wage base and Additional Medicare tax. Federal only: no state tax, AMT, NIIT, QBI deduction, IRMAA or other credits.

Input parameters:

- `estimated_payments_made` (number): Federal estimated tax payments already made for this year, USD.
- `federal_withholding` (number): Federal income tax withheld for the year (W-2 box 2, 1099 withholding), USD; add any Additional Medicare tax an employer withheld (Form 8959 line 24) if known.
- `filing_status` (string, required): Federal filing status.
- `itemized_deductions` (number): Total itemized deductions (Schedule A), USD. Used only when larger than the standard deduction.
- `planned_extra_income` (number): What-if: extra ordinary income being considered for the year (401(k) or IRA withdrawal, Roth conversion, bonus), USD, NOT included in total_income. Returns the tax it adds and the marginal rate after.
- `prior_year_agi` (number): Last year's adjusted gross income, USD (decides 100% vs 110% safe harbor).
- `prior_year_total_tax` (number): Last year's total federal tax, USD. Give it to get the quarterly safe-harbor payment; 0 means last year's tax really was $0 (then no estimates are required). Omit if unknown.
- `qualified_dividends_and_long_term_gains` (number): Qualified dividends (1099-DIV box 1b) plus net long-term capital gains, USD. Part of total_income; taxed at 0%/15%/20% stacked on top of ordinary income.
- `qualifying_children` (integer): Children under 17 who qualify for the child tax credit.
- `self_employment_profit` (number): Net self-employment profit (Schedule C), USD. Already included in total_income; used for self-employment tax.
- `tax_year` (integer, required): Tax year: 2025 or 2026.
- `taxpayers_age_65_or_older` (integer): Taxpayers on the return who are 65 or older by year end: 0 or 1, or 2 only for married_filing_jointly. Adds the age-65+ standard deduction and the $6,000 senior deduction (2025–2028; not for married_…
- `total_income` (number, required): Total income for the year before deductions, USD: wages, interest, dividends, other income and self-employment profit together.
- `w2_wages` (number): W-2 wages (Social Security / Medicare wages), USD; reduces the self-employment Social Security tax room. 0 if none.

### `list_federal_tax_deadlines` (~128 tokens)

Upcoming federal tax deadlines

Lists upcoming U.S. federal tax deadlines with days remaining: quarterly estimated payments (1040-ES), individual return and extension dates, and optionally S-corporation, partnership and C-corporation return and estimated-tax dates. Dates are already moved off weekends and holidays.

Input parameters:

- `from_date` (string): List deadlines on or after this date (YYYY-MM-DD). Default: today (U.S. Central).
- `include_business` (boolean): Also list business return and C-corporation estimated tax dates.
- `limit` (integer): Maximum number of deadlines to return.

### `check_foreign_reporting_requirements` (~269 tokens)

Check FBAR, Form 8938 and Form 3520 thresholds

Checks a U.S. person's foreign-asset figures against the filing thresholds for FBAR (FinCEN Form 114), Form 8938 (FATCA) and Form 3520 (gifts or bequests from a foreign individual or estate). Only the forms whose figures are given are checked. Thresholds only: it does not decide which accounts or assets count; the descriptions of each input say what to include.

Input parameters:

- `filing_status` (string, required): Federal filing status.
- `foreign_accounts_max_aggregate` (number): FBAR: the highest combined value of all foreign financial accounts at any time in the year, USD.
- `foreign_gifts_received` (number): Form 3520: total gifts and bequests received in the year from nonresident alien individuals or foreign estates, USD.
- `lives_abroad` (boolean): Form 8938: true if the taxpayer meets the bona fide residence or physical presence test abroad (higher thresholds).
- `specified_foreign_assets_max` (number): Form 8938: the highest value of specified foreign financial assets at any time in the year, USD.
- `specified_foreign_assets_year_end` (number): Form 8938: value of specified foreign financial assets on the last day of the year, USD.

### `screen_foreign_life_insurance_7702` (~236 tokens)

Screen a non-U.S. life insurance policy under IRC §7702

Preliminary screen of whether a non-U.S. savings-type life insurance policy (for example a Hong Kong whole-life or savings plan) meets the U.S. definition of life insurance under IRC §7702, using the cash value accumulation test (CVAT) and the cash value corridor, from the policy's cash value table. A policy that fails is taxed each year on its inside growth (§7702(g)). Values in any one currency (ratios do not depend on currency). Does not check the guideline premium limit.

Input parameters:

- `increasing_benefit_rule` (object): For policies whose death benefit grows by a fixed rate: lets years without a death_benefit be computed.
- `issue_age` (integer, required): Insured's age at issue, completed years.
- `issue_year` (integer, required): Calendar year the policy was issued.
- `policy_years` (array, required): Rows from the policy's illustration / cash value table; a few years such as 1, 5, 10, 20 are enough.
- `sex` (string, required): Insured's sex (mortality table).

### `compare_offshore_compliance_options` (~178 tokens)

Compare catch-up options for unreported foreign assets

For a U.S. taxpayer who missed FBAR or Form 8938 filings or left foreign income unreported, estimates and compares the cost of three catch-up paths: A) delinquent information return procedures (only when no income went unreported), B) amended returns with tax and interest plus a reasonable-cause statement (with the statutory penalty exposure if reasonable cause is rejected), and C) the Streamlined Domestic Offshore Procedures (tax, interest and the 5% penalty). Also adds the 1% Form 720 excise tax on premiums paid to foreign insurers. Tax years 2019–2025. Assumes non-willful conduct; it does not decide eligibility.

Input parameters:

- `filing_status` (string, required): Filing status used on the original returns.
- `years` (array, required): One entry per affected tax year.

### `estimate_inheritance_step_up` (~233 tokens)

Estimate the basis step-up on inherited stocks and funds

For U.S.-listed stocks, ETFs, mutual funds or crypto held at someone's death (directly, in an estate or in a revocable living trust), estimates the value on the date of death from public market prices, the IRC §1014 step-up in cost basis and the capital-gains tax the heirs avoid (15%–23.8%), plus the dates that matter: the §2032 alternate valuation date, the Form 706 due date and the last day for a portability election (Rev. Proc. 2022-32). Valuation follows Treas. Reg. §20.2031-2(b) (mean of high and low, weekend and no-trade days weighted) and §20.2031-8(b) for funds. Up to 25 holdings. An estimate for planning, not a signed valuation a broker or the IRS will accept; the reply says where to get one.

Input parameters:

- `date_of_death` (string, required): Date of death, YYYY-MM-DD (must be before today).
- `holdings` (array, required): Holdings at the date of death.

## Common questions

### What is the US Tax Estimator MCP server?

US Tax Estimator is an MCP server listed in the public MCP registry as com.yz-cpa/us-tax-estimator. Federal tax estimate, deadlines, FBAR/8938/3520 checks, §7702 screen, inherited-stock step-up. This page covers its hosted endpoint (https://my.yz-cpa.com/mcp).

### Is the US Tax Estimator MCP server safe to use?

US Tax Estimator scores 80 out of 100 on VerifyMCP. That is a record of what we were able to check automatically, not an endorsement. The category breakdown on this page shows every signal behind the number, including the ones we could not confirm.

### What tools does the US Tax Estimator MCP server expose?

US Tax Estimator exposes 6 tools: estimate_federal_tax, list_federal_tax_deadlines, check_foreign_reporting_requirements, screen_foreign_life_insurance_7702, compare_offshore_compliance_options, estimate_inheritance_step_up. Their descriptions and schemas cost roughly 1,793 tokens of context every time the server is loaded.

### Is the US Tax Estimator MCP server still maintained?

US Tax Estimator is still listed as active in the MCP registry. We last reached this channel on 5 November 2026. Those dates come from our own scans of the registry and the channel itself, not from anything the publisher announced.

### What did VerifyMCP test on the US Tax Estimator MCP server?

VerifyMCP ran 13 checks on US Tax Estimator, covering TLS certificate, Authorization, HTTPS, HSTS header and 9 more. Supply Chain Security and Provenance & Transparency do not apply to a hosted endpoint, so they were not tested. The score does not measure everything, and the scoring documentation lists what it leaves out.
