## Trust breakdown

How this component scores in each security and reliability category. Every signal is checked automatically against the live server, and we only credit what we can confirm. Scores are 0–100 per category. Scoring method: https://verifymcp.io/docs/scoring (what has changed: https://verifymcp.io/docs/scoring/changelog)

Scored 2026-11-05.

- **Endpoint Security**: 57/100
  - The endpoint's TLS certificate is valid, in date, and uses a strong key.
  - Authorisation not fully verified: no authorisation is required to call this server, and 4 tool(s) never declared a destructiveHint. The MCP spec treats an absent hint as destructive by default, so we cannot call this surface safe.
  - HTTPS is enforced; there's no plaintext access path.
  - HSTS check failed: the Strict-Transport-Security header is absent.
  - DNSSEC check failed: this domain isn't protected by DNSSEC.
- **Transport & Reachability**: 100/100
  - Verified streamable-http transport via a live MCP handshake.
- **Schema Quality & AI Usability**: 84/100
  - 100% of prompts and resources have a non-trivial description (not blank, and not just the item's name).
  - AI-judged instruction clarity (good).
  - Tool/resource definitions use about 536 tokens (~76/item across 7 items; 4 tools + 3 resources), lean.
  - Usage-examples check failed: none of the tools include examples.
- **Stability & Change Management**: 50/100
  - Stability observed for 15 of 30 days with no destabilising changes; credit accrues until the full window elapses.
- **Tool Coverage**: 100/100
  - 100% of tools have a non-trivial description (not blank, and not just the tool's name).
  - 100% of tool parameters carry a description.
- **Tool Safety**: 100/100
  - No prompt-injection markers were found in the server instructions, tool names or descriptions we captured.
  - We read all 4 captured tool definition(s), and no name or description among them implies an irreversible operation.
  - An AI judge read all 6 captured unit(s) of tool text and found none that tries to manipulate the model reading it.
- **Capabilities**: 100/100
  - Implements a supported MCP spec version (2025-11-25); the latest is 2026-07-28.

## Install

### How do I install the TieredTravel MCP server?

TieredTravel is a hosted endpoint at https://tieredtravel.com/mcp, so there is nothing to install locally. Ready-made configuration for Claude, Cursor, VS Code, Codex and 5 more is on this page, copied from each client's own documentation.

The mcpServers block is a cross-client convention. Remote transports vary, so check your client's docs.

## Changelog

Every change recorded for this component, newest first. Days that predate change tracking, or that we cannot explain, say so: "we were watching and nothing happened" and "we were not watching" are different claims.

### 2026-11-04 (score 73, +1)

- [security] The server rewrote its instructions, which are the text every model session reads
- [security] Tool “destination_costs” rewrote its description, which is the text the model reads
- [cosmetic] “find_destinations” reworded the description of “query”

## MCP tools (4)

### `destination_costs` (~95 tokens)

Daily cost by budget tier

What a day costs in a city at budget, mid-range and luxury, broken down into accommodation, food, transport and activities, with the editorial overview for each tier. Figures come from a hand-written catalogue of 110 cities. If the city is not in the catalogue this returns an error — it never estimates.

Input parameters:

- `city` (string, required): City name or slug, e.g. "lisbon" or "Lisbon".

### `walking_route` (~111 tokens)

Self-guided walking route

A curated stop-by-stop walking route for a city: each stop in order with what to know there, real coordinates, distance on foot and total time. Distance excludes tram, metro and ferry legs, which are flagged separately. Nine cities deliberately have no route because a self-guided walk is the wrong format there.

Input parameters:

- `city` (string, required): City name or slug.
- `hours` (integer): Optional route length. Only 3, 6 and 12 exist; omit to get whatever the city has.

### `compare_destinations` (~45 tokens)

Compare two destinations

Two cities side by side: daily cost at each tier, plus currency, language and best months to visit.

Input parameters:

- `cities` (array, required): Exactly two city names or slugs.

### `find_destinations` (~71 tokens)

Find destinations in the catalogue

List which cities this server knows about, optionally filtered by country, continent or a name fragment. Call this first when a city might not be covered — the other tools fail rather than guess.

Input parameters:

- `query` (string): Optional filter: a country, continent or name fragment. Omit for all 110.

## Common questions

### What is the TieredTravel MCP server?

TieredTravel is an MCP server listed in the public MCP registry as com.tieredtravel/travel. Daily travel costs at budget, mid-range and luxury for 100 cities, plus self-guided walking routes. This page covers its hosted endpoint (https://tieredtravel.com/mcp).

### Is the TieredTravel MCP server safe to use?

TieredTravel scores 73 out of 100 on VerifyMCP. That is a record of what we were able to check automatically, not an endorsement. The category breakdown on this page shows every signal behind the number, including the ones we could not confirm.

### What tools does the TieredTravel MCP server expose?

TieredTravel exposes 4 tools: destination_costs, walking_route, compare_destinations, find_destinations. Their descriptions and schemas cost roughly 322 tokens of context every time the server is loaded.

### Does the TieredTravel MCP server require authentication?

No. We connected to TieredTravel without credentials and it answered, so anything it exposes is reachable by anyone who knows the address.

### Is the TieredTravel MCP server still maintained?

TieredTravel is still listed as active in the MCP registry. We last reached this channel on 5 November 2026. Those dates come from our own scans of the registry and the channel itself, not from anything the publisher announced.

### What did VerifyMCP test on the TieredTravel MCP server?

VerifyMCP ran 12 checks on TieredTravel, covering TLS certificate, HTTPS, HSTS header, DNSSEC and 8 more. One item could not be completed, a gap on our side rather than a finding about TieredTravel: Authorization. Supply Chain Security and Provenance & Transparency do not apply to a hosted endpoint, so they were not tested. The score does not measure everything, and the scoring documentation lists what it leaves out.
