## Trust breakdown

How this component scores in each security and reliability category. Every signal is checked automatically against the live server, and we only credit what we can confirm. Scores are 0–100 per category. Scoring method: https://verifymcp.io/docs/scoring (what has changed: https://verifymcp.io/docs/scoring/changelog)

Scored 2026-11-05.

- **Endpoint Security**: 97/100
  - The endpoint's TLS certificate is valid, in date, and uses a strong key.
  - Authorisation is enforced on tool calls, advertised via RFC 9728 protected-resource metadata. Discovery is public, which costs nothing: no tool can be invoked without a token.
  - HTTPS is enforced; there's no plaintext access path.
  - The HSTS (Strict-Transport-Security) header is present.
  - DNSSEC check failed: this domain isn't protected by DNSSEC.
  - The authorisation server supports Client ID Metadata Documents, the current MCP client-registration mechanism.
- **Transport & Reachability**: 100/100
  - Verified streamable-http transport via a live MCP handshake.
- **Schema Quality & AI Usability**: 79/100
  - AI-judged instruction clarity (excellent).
  - Context-footprint check failed: tool/resource definitions use about 7299 tokens (~104/item across 70 items; 70 tools + 0 resources), over budget; trim descriptions and params.
  - Usage-examples check failed: none of the tools include examples.
- **Stability & Change Management**: 63/100
  - Stability observed for 19 of 30 days with no destabilising changes; credit accrues until the full window elapses.
- **Tool Coverage**: 99/100
  - 100% of tools have a non-trivial description (not blank, and not just the tool's name).
  - 97% of tool parameters carry a description.
  - Structured output schemas are declared (100% of tools); any adoption earns full credit.
- **Tool Safety**: 100/100
  - No prompt-injection markers were found in the server instructions, tool names or descriptions we captured.
  - All 7 tool(s) whose name or description implies an irreversible operation declare an MCP destructiveHint annotation.
  - An AI judge read all 70 captured unit(s) of tool text and found none that tries to manipulate the model reading it.
- **Capabilities**: 100/100
  - Implements a supported MCP spec version (2025-11-25); the latest is 2026-07-28.

## MCP tools (70)

### `get_stream_posts` (~186 tokens)

Read stream posts

Read one page of stored posts from an accessible Synoptic stream, newest first. Requires authentication and permission to read its posts; custom-target restrictions apply. Returns up to 50 posts with an optional continuation token. Use date bounds for historical updates or search_stream_posts for text queries. This call reads existing content and does not start monitoring or fetch external sources.

Input parameters:

- `fromDate` (string): Inclusive lower bound on post createdAt, as ISO 8601 with a timezone
- `id` (string, required): Synoptic stream ID from search or streams_all
- `limit` (integer): Maximum number of posts in this page; defaults to 10
- `nextToken` (string): Opaque token from the previous page; keep the stream and date bounds unchanged
- `toDate` (string): Inclusive upper bound on post createdAt, as ISO 8601 with a timezone

Output parameters:

- `items` (array): Stored posts in this page, newest first
- `nextToken` (string): Continuation token for older posts; omitted when this query has no further page

### `streams_all` (~134 tokens)

Browse public streams

List one page of active public streams in the Synoptic catalog without signing in. Returns stored stream metadata, optionally filtered by minimum follower count. Use nextToken to continue browsing, search to find a source or topic, and get_stream to inspect a result. Listing a stream does not follow it or grant access to its posts.

Input parameters:

- `limit` (integer): Maximum number of streams in this page; defaults to 10
- `minFollowers` (integer): Include streams with at least this many followers; defaults to 0
- `nextToken` (string): Opaque token from the previous catalog page; keep minFollowers unchanged

Output parameters:

- `items` (array): Public stream metadata in this catalog page
- `nextToken` (string): Continuation token for the next catalog page, when available

### `search` (~184 tokens)

Find streams

Search the Synoptic stream catalog by keyword. Matches stream names, labels, descriptions, categories, and IDs; does not search post text or accounts on other services. Returns active public streams without sign-in; a signed-in user also gets private streams they own, follow, subscribe to, or were invited to. Results are ordered by follower count, not relevance. Returns the ID, name, description, and Synoptic page URL of each match. Use get_stream to inspect a result before reading posts or configuring targets.

Input parameters:

- `limit` (integer): Maximum number of streams in this page; defaults to 10
- `offset` (integer): Number of matching records to skip; starts at 0 and increases by limit for the next page
- `query` (string, required): One or a few keywords; every word must match a stream name, label, description, category, or ID

Output parameters:

- `hasMore` (boolean): True when another page of matching streams is available; request it with offset increased by limit
- `streams` (array): Matching streams in this page, ordered by follower count
- `total` (number): Number of streams returned in this page

### `get_stream` (~101 tokens)

Inspect stream

Inspect a discovered Synoptic feed by ID before reading, configuring monitoring targets, or planning an API integration. Returns its description, publication state, API-access flag, available pricing, and custom-target instructions and limits when present. Request terminal access

Join the waitlist for early access to the Synoptic trading terminal (beta) for the signed-in account. Sets terminalAccessRequested, which get_me reports; repeating the call changes nothing. Does not grant access, open a support ticket or place trades. Use request_feature for other product requests.

Output parameters:

- `requested` (boolean)

### `streams_following` (~259 tokens)

List followed streams

### `search_stream_posts` (~219 tokens)

Search stream posts

Search full post text within one accessible stream, newest first. Supports ISO date bounds; custom-target restrictions apply. Continue with nextOffset; this differs from opaque history tokens. Use get_stream_posts to page by date without a text query; the search tool finds streams, not posts.

Input parameters:

- `fromDate` (string): Earliest post creation time to include, ISO 8601 with a timezone offset.
- `limit` (integer): Maximum number of posts in this page.
- `offset` (integer): Matches to skip: 0 for the first page, then nextOffset from the previous page.
- `streamId` (string, required): ID of a stream whose posts you can read, such as one you own or follow.

Output parameters:

- `items` (array)
- `nextOffset` (integer)

### `get_post` (~69 tokens)

Read an existing stream post by ID. Public stream posts do not require following; private stream posts require individual-post access. Custom-target restrictions still apply. Does not fetch external article URLs.

Input parameters:

- `id` (string, required): Post ID, for example from get_stream_posts, search_stream_posts or get_collection_posts.

Output parameters:

- `post` (object)

### `create_stream_post` (~138 tokens)

Input parameters:

- `customTarget` (string): Required on custom-target streams and rejected on other streams. The target value this post is for, in the stream’s target format; only the owner and followers who selected it receive the post.
- `streamId` (string, required): ID of a stream you own, from streams_created.
- `text` (string, required): Post body; the Synoptic app renders it as Markdown.

Output parameters:

- `post` (object)

### `create_stream` (~224 tokens)

Create draft stream

Create a free draft publishing stream owned by the signed-in user for their research, news, or other updates. Supply a plain-text description and add a first post with create_stream_post before publishing with publish_stream. This creates a publishing destination; use existing custom-target tools to configure supported source monitoring or request_stream to request new coverage. Does not configure paid pricing.

Input parameters:

- `apiAccessEnabled` (boolean): Whether external API consumers can subscribe to this stream.
- `description` (string, required): What the stream publishes, as plain text; Markdown is not rendered.
- `label` (string): Short tag shown on the stream page; empty for none.
- `name` (string, required): Stream name shown in the catalog and on its page.
- `streamCategory` (string): Topic category; stream list tools can filter by it.

Output parameters:

- `stream` (object)

### `update_stream` (~150 tokens)

Update stream details

Update owned stream metadata. Omitted fields retain current values. A supplied description replaces its formatting with plain text. Does not change visibility, pricing, or custom-target configuration.

Input parameters:

- `apiAccessEnabled` (boolean): Whether external API consumers can subscribe to this stream; omit to keep.
- `description` (string): New plain-text description; omit to keep the current text and formatting.
- `id` (string, required): ID of a stream you own, from streams_created.
- `label` (string): New short tag; an empty string clears it, omit to keep.
- `name` (string): New stream name; omit to keep.
- `streamCategory` (string): New topic category; omit to keep.

Output parameters:

- `stream` (object)

### `publish_stream` (~79 tokens)

Publish stream

Publish an owned draft stream, setting its state to ACTIVE. May notify users; the returned state is authoritative. Publishing can’t be undone through MCP. Use create_stream_post to add posts.

Input parameters:

- `id` (string, required): ID of a DRAFT stream you own. It needs at least one post from create_stream_post unless it is a custom-target stream.

Output parameters:

- `stream` (object)

### `delete_stream` (~77 tokens)

Delete stream

Delete an owned free stream. Unfollows and notifies its followers, removes it from collections, API key publish permissions and source routes, and cannot be undone. Paid streams can only be deleted in the Synoptic app. Requires the exact stream ID.

Input parameters:

- `id` (string, required): ID of a free stream you own, from streams_created.

Output parameters:

- `success` (boolean)

### `get_stream_custom_targets` (~84 tokens)

Read stream targets

Read configured custom-target values for an accessible stream, such as the selected accounts, channels, repositories, or tracking criteria supported by that feed. Use get_stream for target-format instructions. Followers receive their own selections; the stream owner receives the union of all followers’ targets. Confirms saved selections, not collector health or delivery timing.

Input parameters:

- `streamId` (string, required)

Output parameters:

- `customTargets` (array)

### `set_stream_custom_targets` (~249 tokens)

Replace Synoptic stream targets

Replace the signed-in user’s selected targets on a Synoptic custom-target stream and return the saved list. Targets, such as accounts, channels, repositories, or keywords in the format get_stream describes, choose which of the stream’s posts the user receives. Posts for removed targets stop appearing in the user’s stream reads, post searches, and WebSocket API delivery, and in open Synoptic app feeds after they reconnect; an empty list leaves none. Removed targets are then also removed from the user’s collection sources limited to specific targets, and such a source left with no targets is deleted. The stream’s owner receives all followers’ targets and may use them to decide what to collect. Requires an active direct subscription; values must match the stream’s target format and fit the subscription’s target allowance. Does not purchase access or confirm that targets are collected.

Input parameters:

- `customTargets` (array, required): Complete replacement list in the stream’s required target format. An empty array clears all selections. Use get_stream_custom_targets to inspect saved values or patch_stream_custom_targets for a narr…
- `streamId` (string, required): ID of an existing custom-target stream. Use get_stream to read its target-format instructions.

Output parameters:

- `customTargets` (array)

### `patch_stream_custom_targets` (~278 tokens)

Add or remove Synoptic stream targets

Add or remove targets in the signed-in user’s selection on a Synoptic custom-target stream, keeping other targets, and return the resulting list. Targets, such as accounts, channels, repositories, or keywords in the format get_stream describes, choose which of the stream’s posts the user receives. Posts for removed targets stop appearing in the user’s stream reads, post searches, and WebSocket API delivery, and in open Synoptic app feeds after they reconnect. Removed targets are then also removed from the user’s collection sources limited to specific targets, and such a source left with no targets is deleted. The stream’s owner receives all followers’ targets and may use them to decide what to collect. Requires following the stream and an active direct subscription; every resulting target, including existing ones, must match the stream’s target format, and the list must fit the subscription’s target allowance. Does not purchase access or confirm that targets are collected.

Input parameters:

- `add` (array): Target values to add in the stream’s required format. Existing values are retained. A value in both add and remove remains selected.
- `remove` (array): Saved target values to remove. At least one of add or remove must contain a value.
- `streamId` (string, required): ID of an existing custom-target stream. Use get_stream to read its target-format instructions.

Output parameters:

- `customTargets` (array)

Create a Synoptic collection

Create a collection in the signed-in user’s stream deck from existing Synoptic streams and return collection metadata. Automatically follows eligible selected sources and may consume invitations; backfills matching stored posts. Optional saved AI filters process incoming posts and can use the account’s AI allowance. Repeated successful calls create separate collections. Does not purchase stream access or create upstream collectors.

Input parameters:

- `name` (string): Display name

### `update_collection` (~224 tokens)

Update collection

Replace a custom collection’s name, source list, filters, and highlights. Read get_collection first and preserve desired settings: omitted filters, highlights and AI filter are cleared, matchingSourcesOnly becomes false, and columnWidth resets to null. In the server-managed Related news collection, sources only tune its existing streams and matchingSourcesOnly stays true. Automatically follows eligible sources, may consume invitations, and rebuilds the stored collection feed. An attached AI filter processes incoming posts and can use the account’s AI allowance.

Input parameters:

- `filters` (object): Keyword, regex, highlight and AI filters; defaults to none
- `highlights` (object): Highlight rules for post text in the Synoptic app
- `id` (string, required): Collection ID from list_collections

## Common questions

### What is the Synoptic MCP server?

Synoptic is an MCP server listed in the public MCP registry as com.synoptic/synoptic. Follow live feeds from Twitter/X, Telegram, press releases, SEC filings and more; publish your own. This page covers its hosted endpoint (https://mcp.api.synoptic.com/mcp).

### Is the Synoptic MCP server safe to use?

Synoptic scores 90 out of 100 on VerifyMCP. That is a record of what we were able to check automatically, not an endorsement. The category breakdown on this page shows every signal behind the number, including the ones we could not confirm.

### What tools does the Synoptic MCP server expose?

Synoptic exposes 70 tools: get_stream_posts, streams_all, search, get_stream, fetch, and 65 more. Their descriptions and schemas cost roughly 7,299 tokens of context every time the server is loaded.

### Does the Synoptic MCP server require authentication?

Yes. Synoptic asked us for credentials when we connected, so you will need to authorise it in your MCP client before it can do anything.

### Is the Synoptic MCP server still maintained?

Synoptic is still listed as active in the MCP registry. We last reached this channel on 5 November 2026. Those dates come from our own scans of the registry and the channel itself, not from anything the publisher announced.
