## Trust breakdown

How this component scores in each security and reliability category. Every signal is checked automatically against the live server, and we only credit what we can confirm. Scores are 0–100 per category. Scoring method: https://verifymcp.io/docs/scoring (what has changed: https://verifymcp.io/docs/scoring/changelog)

Scored 2026-11-05.

- **Endpoint Security**: 74/100
  - The endpoint's TLS certificate is valid, in date, and uses a strong key.
  - No authorisation is required to call this server. Every tool declares its destructiveHint and none is destructive, so open access doesn't expose one.
  - HTTPS is enforced; there's no plaintext access path.
  - HSTS check failed: the Strict-Transport-Security header is absent.
  - DNSSEC check failed: this domain isn't protected by DNSSEC.
- **Transport & Reachability**: 100/100
  - Verified streamable-http transport via a live MCP handshake.
- **Schema Quality & AI Usability**: 72/100
  - AI-judged instruction clarity (excellent).
  - Context-footprint check failed: tool/resource definitions use about 775 tokens (~155/item across 5 items; 5 tools + 0 resources), over budget; trim descriptions and params.
  - Usage-examples check failed: none of the tools include examples.
- **Stability & Change Management**: 60/100
  - Stability observed for 18 of 30 days with no destabilising changes; credit accrues until the full window elapses.
- **Tool Coverage**: 100/100
  - 100% of tools have a non-trivial description (not blank, and not just the tool's name).
  - 100% of tool parameters carry a description.
- **Tool Safety**: 100/100
  - No prompt-injection markers were found in the server instructions, tool names or descriptions we captured.
  - We read all 5 captured tool definition(s), and no name or description among them implies an irreversible operation.
  - An AI judge read all 6 captured unit(s) of tool text and found none that tries to manipulate the model reading it.
- **Capabilities**: 100/100
  - Implements a supported MCP spec version (2025-11-25); the latest is 2026-07-28.

The mcpServers block is a cross-client convention. Remote transports vary, so check your client's docs.

## MCP tools (5)

### `find_models` (~202 tokens)

Find the best models for a task or computer

Use this whenever the user asks which local or open-weight LLM is best, overall or for coding, documents or decisions, or which model they can run on their graphics card (VRAM) or Mac. Returns tested models ranked by our own test scores, best first; with a GPU or Mac memory size it only returns models that fit, plus the quantization to download and the memory it needs. Examples: 'best model for a 16 GB GPU', 'best coding model on a 32 GB Mac', 'best small model under 10B'.

Input parameters:

- `hardware` (string): Graphics card (VRAM) or Mac (unified memory).
- `limit` (integer): Default 10.
- `max_params_b` (number): Only models with at most this many billion parameters.
- `memory_gb` (number): VRAM or Mac memory in GB. Needs hardware.
- `sort_by` (string): Score to rank by. Default overall.

### `get_model` (~128 tokens)

Get one model's results

Use this whenever the user asks about a specific open-weight model: how good it is, its benchmark scores, whether it's worth using, how much VRAM or memory it needs, or which quantization to download. Returns our test scores, rank, memory at each quantization, the smallest GPU and Mac it fits, decision accuracy and our Q4 run on a Mac when there is one. Accepts a name or slug, e.g. 'qwen3.5 9b' or 'gpt-oss-20b'.

Input parameters:

- `model` (string, required): Model name or slug.

### `compare_models` (~62 tokens)

Compare models side by side

Use this whenever the user asks how two or more open-weight models compare, or which of them to pick. Returns our test scores, rank and memory needs for 2 to 6 models side by side.

Input parameters:

- `models` (array, required): Model names or slugs.

### `decision_models` (~125 tokens)

Decision model rankings

Use this whenever the user asks about decision models or LLMs for classification, routing, triage or yes/no calls. Accuracy on our decision test (routing tickets, applying rules, spotting phishing, flagging risky code changes), how well each model's confidence matches its accuracy (calibration), and API cost per 1,000 calls. Covers dedicated decision models and regular LLMs given the same tasks.

Input parameters:

- `limit` (integer): Default 15.
- `type` (string): decision = dedicated decision models only (default), llm = regular LLMs only.

### `search_articles` (~84 tokens)

Search Model Tested articles

Find Model Tested articles and ranking pages by keyword, newest first: news about newly tested models, guides on quantization, Ollama and memory. Returns title, summary, date and link.

Input parameters:

- `limit` (integer): Default 8.
- `query` (string): Words to look for, e.g. 'quantization' or 'ornith'. Empty lists the latest.

## Common questions

### What is the Model Tested MCP server?

Model Tested is an MCP server listed in the public MCP registry as com.modeltested/llm-benchmarks. Independent test scores for open-weight LLMs: best model for your GPU or Mac, comparisons. This page covers its hosted endpoint (https://modeltested.com/mcp).

### Is the Model Tested MCP server safe to use?

Model Tested scores 79 out of 100 on VerifyMCP. That is a record of what we were able to check automatically, not an endorsement. The category breakdown on this page shows every signal behind the number, including the ones we could not confirm.

### What tools does the Model Tested MCP server expose?

Model Tested exposes 5 tools: find_models, get_model, compare_models, decision_models, search_articles. Their descriptions and schemas cost roughly 601 tokens of context every time the server is loaded.

### Does the Model Tested MCP server require authentication?

No. We connected to Model Tested without credentials and it answered, so anything it exposes is reachable by anyone who knows the address.

### Is the Model Tested MCP server still maintained?

Model Tested is still listed as active in the MCP registry. We last reached this channel on 5 November 2026. Those dates come from our own scans of the registry and the channel itself, not from anything the publisher announced.
