## Trust breakdown

How this component scores in each security and reliability category. Every signal is checked automatically against the live server, and we only credit what we can confirm. Scores are 0–100 per category. Scoring method: https://verifymcp.io/docs/scoring (what has changed: https://verifymcp.io/docs/scoring/changelog)

Scored 2026-11-05.

- **Endpoint Security**: 80/100
  - The endpoint's TLS certificate is valid, in date, and uses a strong key.
  - No authorisation is required to call this server. Every tool declares its destructiveHint and none is destructive, so open access doesn't expose one.
  - HTTPS is enforced; there's no plaintext access path.
  - The HSTS (Strict-Transport-Security) header is present.
  - DNSSEC check failed: this domain isn't protected by DNSSEC.
- **Transport & Reachability**: 100/100
  - Verified streamable-http transport via a live MCP handshake.
- **Schema Quality & AI Usability**: 74/100
  - AI-judged instruction clarity (good).
  - Context-footprint check failed: tool/resource definitions use about 548 tokens (~137/item across 4 items; 4 tools + 0 resources), over budget; trim descriptions and params.
  - Usage-examples check failed: none of the tools include examples.
- **Stability & Change Management**: 57/100
  - Stability observed for 17 of 30 days with no destabilising changes; credit accrues until the full window elapses.
- **Tool Coverage**: 100/100
  - 100% of tools have a non-trivial description (not blank, and not just the tool's name).
  - 100% of tool parameters carry a description.
- **Tool Safety**: 100/100
  - No prompt-injection markers were found in the server instructions, tool names or descriptions we captured.
  - We read all 4 captured tool definition(s), and no name or description among them implies an irreversible operation.
  - An AI judge read all 5 captured unit(s) of tool text and found none that tries to manipulate the model reading it.
- **Capabilities**: 100/100
  - Implements a current MCP spec version (2026-07-28).

## MCP tools (4)

### `get_rule` (~66 tokens)

Get rule

Read one stored EU e-invoice rule by id. Returns the stored statement, context, test, plain reading, fix, and source URL. Does not check an invoice.

Input parameters:

- `id` (string, required): A stored rule id, such as BR-01 or BR-IC-05.

### `search_rules` (~114 tokens)

Search rules

Find stored rules by words, a BT code, or a group. Each hit returns the stored statement, plain reading, fix, and source URL. At most 100 hits. Does not check an invoice.

Input parameters:

- `bt` (string): A business term code such as BT-24, matched as a whole token.
- `group` (string): One stored group.
- `query` (string): Words matched against the id, statement, reading, fix, context, and test. Every word must match. Case-insensitive.

### `explain_error` (~70 tokens)

Explain error

Read a stored rule named in a rule id or a validator message. Returns the stored statement, plain reading, fix, and source URL when a stored rule matches. Does not check an invoice.

Input parameters:

- `text` (string, required): A rule id such as BR-01, or a validator message that quotes one.

### `check_invoice` (~123 tokens)

Check invoice slice

Read a UBL Invoice XML slice of at most 60000 characters. Returns the business terms that slice writes, the field-map gaps, and one stored note when BR-DE-15 finds no non-empty buyer reference (BT-10). evaluation is false: no Schematron runs. The result does not say the invoice passed. The XML is not stored. A larger file is the raw body of POST /v1/invoices/check, up to 1048576 bytes.

Input parameters:

- `xml` (string, required): UBL Invoice XML. At most 60000 characters.

## Common questions

### What is the Counterfoil MCP server?

Counterfoil is an MCP server listed in the public MCP registry as com.einvoicegoblin/counterfoil. Read stored EU e-invoice rule notes and the invoice field map. Not a validator. This page covers its hosted endpoint (https://einvoicegoblin.com/mcp).

### Is the Counterfoil MCP server safe to use?

Counterfoil scores 81 out of 100 on VerifyMCP. That is a record of what we were able to check automatically, not an endorsement. The category breakdown on this page shows every signal behind the number, including the ones we could not confirm.

### What tools does the Counterfoil MCP server expose?

Counterfoil exposes 4 tools: get_rule, search_rules, explain_error, check_invoice. Their descriptions and schemas cost roughly 373 tokens of context every time the server is loaded.

### Does the Counterfoil MCP server require authentication?

No. We connected to Counterfoil without credentials and it answered, so anything it exposes is reachable by anyone who knows the address.

### Is the Counterfoil MCP server still maintained?

Counterfoil is still listed as active in the MCP registry. We last reached this channel on 5 November 2026. Those dates come from our own scans of the registry and the channel itself, not from anything the publisher announced.
