## Trust breakdown

How this component scores in each security and reliability category. Every signal is checked automatically from public evidence about the published package, including repeated runs of it in an isolated sandbox, and we only credit what we can confirm. Scores are 0–100 per category. Scoring method: https://verifymcp.io/docs/scoring (what has changed: https://verifymcp.io/docs/scoring/changelog)

Scored 2026-11-05.

- **Supply Chain Security**: 81/100

  - Usage-examples check failed: none of the tools include examples.
- **Stability & Change Management**: 33/100
  - Stability observed for 10 of 30 days with no destabilising changes; credit accrues until the full window elapses.
- **Tool Coverage**: 100/100
  - 100% of tools have a non-trivial description (not blank, and not just the tool's name).
  - 100% of tool parameters carry a description.
- **Tool Safety**: 100/100
  - No prompt-injection markers were found in the server instructions, tool names or descriptions we captured.
  - We read all 8 captured tool definition(s), and no name or description among them implies an irreversible operation.
  - An AI judge read all 8 captured unit(s) of tool text and found none that tries to manipulate the model reading it.
- **Capabilities**: 100/100
  - Implements a supported MCP spec version (2025-11-25); the latest is 2026-07-28.

## MCP tools (8)

### `search_stores` (~121 tokens)

Find real local stores (restaurants, groceries, bakeries, bodegas, markets) in a city. Returns merchant-submitted listings, not scraped delivery-app menus.

Input parameters:

- `category` (string): Category filter, e.g. tacos, bakery, produce.
- `city` (string): City name, e.g. San Francisco.
- `query` (string): Free text matched against store names, categories, and items.
- `type` (string): Store type: restaurant, grocery, bakery, bodega, cafe, pharmacy, butcher, market, retail.

### `find_nearby` (~92 tokens)

Find listed stores near a point (lat/lng), nearest first, each with distance in km and an open-now signal (null when the store has no structured hours: unknown, not a guess).

Input parameters:

- `lat` (number, required): Latitude of the search point.
- `lng` (number, required): Longitude of the search point.
- `radius_km` (number): Search radius in kilometers; defaults to 5.

### `search_items` (~90 tokens)

Find a specific food or product across listed stores, e.g. 'birria tacos' or 'oat milk'. Every hit carries its stock verdict (score, band, reasons), best evidence first. Never present an 'uncertain' or 'unlikely' verdict to a human as available.

Input parameters:

- `city` (string): Limit to one city.
- `query` (string, required): Item or food to find.

### `get_store` (~55 tokens)

Full listing for one store by registry id: hours, address, fulfillment, and every item with its last-confirmed stock status.

Input parameters:

- `store_id` (string, required): Registry id, e.g. sf-mission-taqueria-demo.

### `check_stock` (~93 tokens)

Score how likely a store actually has an item right now. Returns a 0-100 score, a band (likely / probable / uncertain / unlikely), and the reasons. Never present an 'uncertain' or 'unlikely' verdict to a human as available.

Input parameters:

- `item` (string, required): Item name as listed, e.g. 'Birria tacos'.
- `store_id` (string, required): Registry id of the store.

### `validate_store` (~71 tokens)

Run the ShelfSignal validation checks on a listing and return its receipt: tier (VERIFIED / LISTED / STALE / INCOMPLETE), score, and every check with its evidence. Use this before recommending a store you have not used before.

Input parameters:

- `store_id` (string, required): Registry id of the store.

### `submit_store` (~74 tokens)

Validate a merchant submission (the $100 Starter Store intake) and preview exactly how it would appear in the registry, with its validation receipt. Does not charge anything and does not publish until the listing is merged into the registry.

Input parameters:

- `submission` (object, required): The merchant submission object; see examples/submission.example.json for the shape.

### `list_coverage` (~33 tokens)

Which cities and categories the index currently covers, with store counts. Check coverage before promising a human you can search somewhere.

## Common questions

### What is the ShelfSignal MCP server?

ShelfSignal is an MCP server listed in the public MCP registry as io.github.CloudCorpRecords/shelfsignal. The open store index for AI agents: merchants list real stock, agents find local food and stores. This page covers its npm package (@reneturcios/shelfsignal).

### Is the ShelfSignal MCP server safe to use?

ShelfSignal scores 70 out of 100 on VerifyMCP. We recorded 1 known advisory against it as of 5 November 2026. It declares no install or post-install scripts. That is a record of what we were able to check automatically, not an endorsement. The category breakdown on this page shows every signal behind the number, including the ones we could not confirm.

### What tools does the ShelfSignal MCP server expose?

ShelfSignal exposes 8 tools: search_stores, find_nearby, search_items, get_store, check_stock, and 3 more. Their descriptions and schemas cost roughly 629 tokens of context every time the server is loaded.

### Is the ShelfSignal MCP server still maintained?

ShelfSignal is still listed as active in the MCP registry. We last reached this channel on 5 November 2026. Those dates come from our own scans of the registry and the channel itself, not from anything the publisher announced.

### What licence is the ShelfSignal MCP server under?

ShelfSignal declares the MIT licence, which is OSI-approved. That covers the source only, and says nothing about the cost of any service it calls.
