## MCP tools (5)

### `inspect_icon` (~572 tokens)

Inspect an image before tracing

Report what an image is (size, format, transparency) and what the tracer WOULD do with it — colour vs mono, gradients on or off, the mono cut, the resolution it would trace at — without tracing. Fast. Use it to sanity-check a source, or to explain a choice before overriding it.

Input parameters:

- `despeckle` (number): 0 keeps every speck, 100 is aggressive. Default 25.
- `detail` (string): high lifts the flat-art raster cap 2048 → 4096: crisper, ~4x the work.
- `fidelity` (number): Shape-beautification tolerance in px; 0 disables snapping to circles/lines.
- `flattenOnto` (string): Composite a TRANSPARENT source onto this colour before tracing, e.g. "#ffffff". Omit to keep the alpha. (Not the card colour — that is appearance.background.)
- `gradients` (string): auto (default) probes for real colour ramps. flat forces solid fills (right for most icons). rich forces gradient fitting.
- `image` (string, required): Path to a PNG, JPEG, WebP, GIF, BMP or SVG file. Relative paths resolve against the working directory.
- `layering` (string): Colour mode. stacked (default): a shape paints under the shapes in front of it — fewer nodes, no hairline seams between colours, shapes stay whole in a design tool. tiled: shapes fit edge to edge, wi…
- `mode` (string): auto (default) counts the inks: one ink on paper traces mono, which is far cleaner for line art; anything else traces colour.
- `removeBackground` (boolean): Drop the detected background layer so the SVG comes back transparent.
- `smoothing` (number): 0 = crisp and node-dense, 100 = smooth and sparse. Default 50.
- `strokes` (boolean): Trace LINE ART as centreline strokes with a measured stroke-width (open and closed stroked paths you can re-weight), instead of filled outlines of each line. Ink no stroke explains (a dot, a note hea…
- `strokesOnly` (boolean): With `strokes`: NO filled paths at all — the ink no stroke explains (a dot, a note head, a solid shape) is drawn as round-capped strokes too, along its own middle and as wide as it is there; a dot is…

### `trace_icon` (~848 tokens)

Trace an image to clean SVG

Vectorize a raster image into a clean, editable SVG: colour regions become real shapes with fitted curves, not a traced outline of pixels. Decides colour vs mono, gradient fitting and trace resolution automatically (override with the options). Writes the .svg and reports path count, node count and the decisions it made.

- `image` (string, required): Path to the image to trace (PNG, JPEG, WebP, GIF, BMP, or an SVG to re-trace).
- `ink` (string): Paint a MONO trace in this instead of the ink the probe read: a hex colour, or "currentColor" so the icon takes the CSS text colour (what an icon set wants). Colour traces keep their colours.
- `inline` (boolean): Also return the SVG markup in the response (only do this for small icons).
- `inset` (number): With normalize: units kept clear on each side. Default size/12 (2 on a 24 grid, as Lucide draws).
- `normalize` (number): Refit the SVG into a square viewBox of this many units: normalize: 24 fits the art into "0 0 24 24", centred, with `inset` units clear on every side, coordinates rounded to 2 decimals — so every icon…
- `out` (string): Where to write the SVG. Default: next to the source, same name, .svg extension (<name>.traced.svg when the source is itself that .svg, so it is never overwritten).
- `quiet` (boolean): Return only the summary (one line per icon for a sheet) and skip the JSON block. For batches, where the JSON repeats what the summary says.

### `export_icons` (~614 tokens)

Export an icon collection

Render a logo (SVG or raster) into a complete icon collection on disk. Presets:
  pwa public/ — favicon PNGs + favicon.ico, apple-touch-icon, 192/512 PWA icons, maskable pair, manifest.webmanifest and a <head> snippet.
  favicon public/ — the 16/32/48 PNGs, a real multi-size favicon.ico, apple-touch-icon and the <head> snippet.
web public/ — the full catalogue: every favicon, apple, Android, maskable and Windows tile size the app offers.
tauri src-tauri/icons — the exact set `tauri icon` generates: PNGs, icon.ico, icon.icns and the Windows Store logos.
electron build/ — icon.icns (mac), icon.ico (win) and build/icons/*.png (linux), the layout electron-builder picks up by default.
android res/mipmap-* — ic_launcher, ic_launcher_round and the adaptive ic_launcher_foreground at every density, plus the v26 XML and the 512 Play listing icon.
ios AppIcon.appiconset — every iPhone/iPad size plus the 1024 marketing icon, with Contents.json. Forced opaque: iOS rejects alpha.
extension icons/icon-16..128.png for a Chrome/Firefox MV3 extension, with the manifest fragment to paste in.

An SVG source is rendered analytically at every size, so a 16px favicon is drawn, not downsampled. Maskable/adaptive icons get the platform safe zone automatically (Android keeps only the centre 66% circle). Also emits the real multi-image favicon.ico / .icns containers and the text assets each platform needs (webmanifest, <head> snippet, Contents.json, adaptive-icon XML).

Input parameters:

- `appName` (string): Name used in the webmanifest and the logolab-icons.md notes. Default "App".
- `appearance` (object): How the logo sits in the icon. Defaults keep the source art full-bleed and transparent; the icons that must be opaque take `opaque`.
- `backgroundColor` (string): background_color (splash screen) in the manifest. Default: the opaque icons’ fill.
- `image` (string, required): Path to the logo: an SVG (best — rendered crisply at every size) or a raster image.
- `outDir` (string, required): Directory to write into. Files land in the layout each preset expects (public/, src-tauri/icons/, res/, …).
- `presets` (array): Which collections to write. Default ["pwa"]. Several may be combined.
- `sizes` (array): Extra arbitrary sizes, written to icons/icon-<n>.png.
- `startUrl` (string): start_url in the manifest; the scope is its directory. Default "/".
- `themeColor` (string): theme_color in the manifest and <meta name="theme-color">. Default: backgroundColor.

### `make_app_icons` (~996 tokens)

Image → traced SVG → icon set

The whole pipeline in one call: trace the image to a clean SVG, then render that SVG into the icon collections asked for. This is the tool to use on an AI-generated icon. Presets:
  pwa public/ — favicon PNGs + favicon.ico, apple-touch-icon, 192/512 PWA icons, maskable pair, manifest.webmanifest and a <head> snippet.
  favicon public/ — the 16/32/48 PNGs, a real multi-size favicon.ico, apple-touch-icon and the <head> snippet.
web public/ — the full catalogue: every favicon, apple, Android, maskable and Windows tile size the app offers.
tauri src-tauri/icons — the exact set `tauri icon` generates: PNGs, icon.ico, icon.icns and the Windows Store logos.
electron build/ — icon.icns (mac), icon.ico (win) and build/icons/*.png (linux), the layout electron-builder picks up by default.
android res/mipmap-* — ic_launcher, ic_launcher_round and the adaptive ic_launcher_foreground at every density, plus the v26 XML and the 512 Play listing icon.
ios AppIcon.appiconset — every iPhone/iPad size plus the 1024 marketing icon, with Contents.json. Forced opaque: iOS rejects alpha.
extension icons/icon-16..128.png for a Chrome/Firefox MV3 extension, with the manifest fragment to paste in.

Input parameters:

- `appName` (string): Name used in the webmanifest and the logolab-icons.md notes.
- `appearance` (object): How the logo sits in the icon. Default: full-bleed, transparent; the icons that must be opaque take `opaque`.
- `backgroundColor` (string): background_color (splash screen) in the manifest. Default: the opaque icons’ fill.

- `gradients` (string): auto (default) probes for real colour ramps. flat forces solid fills (right for most icons). rich forces gradient fitting.
- `image` (string, required): Path to the generated or drawn icon image.
- `keepSvg` (string): Also write the traced SVG here (a copy is placed inside the collection anyway).
- `layering` (string): Colour mode. stacked (default): a shape paints under the shapes in front of it — fewer nodes, no hairline seams between colours, shapes stay whole in a design tool. tiled: shapes fit edge to edge, wi…

### `split_icon_sheet` (~1127 tokens)

Split a sheet of icons

Cut a CONTACT SHEET — a grid of many icons on one canvas, which is what image models usually return for "a set of icons" — into individual traced SVGs. Detects the tiles (grid or free layout; pass `grid` when you know the layout, which also keeps an icon drawn as separate pieces whole), crops each with the sheet's own paper colour, and traces each one with its own plan: a one-ink glyph goes mono, a shaded badge goes colour. Tiles come back transparent (removeBackground is ON here) and every mono tile of the same ink is painted in ONE ink, so a set stays consistent; `ink: "currentColor"` and `normalize: 24` give you icon-set-ready files in one call. Caption text under the icons is detected and reported, but not read (OCR is browser-only), so tiles are named by position — or by `names`, in reading order. Each run records what it wrote in logolab-sheet.json and removes what a previous run with the same prefix left behind.

Input parameters:

- `despeckle` (number): 0 keeps every speck, 100 is aggressive. Default 25.
- `detail` (string): high lifts the flat-art raster cap 2048 → 4096: crisper, ~4x the work.
- `fidelity` (number): Shape-beautification tolerance in px; 0 disables snapping to circles/lines.
- `gap` (number): Force the grouping gap in source px. Omit to detect it; prefer `grid` when the layout is known.
- `gradients` (string): Default auto.
- `grid` (object): The layout, when you know it: { rows, cols }. Everything inside one cell is one icon, however far apart its pieces are (a dashed curve, four corner brackets, a dashboard of four rectangles) — the cas…
- `ink` (string): Paint a MONO trace in this instead of the ink the probe read: a hex colour, or "currentColor" so the icon takes the CSS text colour (what an icon set wants). Colour traces keep their colours.
- `inset` (number): With normalize: units kept clear on each side. Default size/12 (2 on a 24 grid, as Lucide draws).
- `keepCrops` (boolean): Also write each tile as a PNG next to its SVG.
- `layering` (string): Colour mode. stacked (default): a shape paints under the shapes in front of it — fewer nodes, no hairline seams between colours, shapes stay whole in a design tool. tiled: shapes fit edge to edge, wi…
- `limit` (integer): Trace at most this many tiles (tracing is the slow part). A limited run is a preview: it removes nothing.
- `mode` (string): Per-tile colour decision. Default auto.
- `names` (array): File names for the icons in READING order (row-major, top-left first): ["home", "search", …] writes home.svg, search.svg, …. Icons past the end of the list keep <prefix>-nn.
- `normalize` (number): Refit the SVG into a square viewBox of this many units: normalize: 24 fits the art into "0 0 24 24", centred, with `inset` units clear on every side, coordinates rounded to 2 decimals — so every icon…
- `outDir` (string, required): Directory to write one SVG per detected icon into.
- `padding` (number): Padding around each icon as a fraction of its long side. Default 0.08.
- `prefix` (string): File-name stem: <prefix>-01.svg. Default: the sheet file name.
- `quiet` (boolean): Return only the summary (one line per icon for a sheet) and skip the JSON block. For batches, where the JSON repeats what the summary says.
- `removeBackground` (boolean): Default TRUE on a sheet: tiles come back transparent. Pass false to keep each tile's paper as a rectangle under the ink.
- `sheet` (string, required): Path to the sheet image.
- `strokesOnly` (boolean): With `strokes`: NO filled paths at all — the ink no stroke explains (a dot, a note head, a solid shape) is drawn as round-capped strokes too, along its own middle and as wide as it is there; a dot is…
- `threshold` (number): How far from the paper colour a pixel counts as ink. Default 24.

## Common questions

### What is the LogoLab MCP server?

LogoLab is an MCP server listed in the public MCP registry as io.github.Blaxzter/logolab. Trace an image to a clean SVG and export a full app-icon set, locally, from your coding agent. This page covers its npm package (logolab).

### Is the LogoLab MCP server safe to use?

LogoLab scores 86 out of 100 on VerifyMCP. We found no known CVEs affecting it as of 5 November 2026. It declares no install or post-install scripts. Its build provenance is signed and verified. That is a record of what we were able to check automatically, not an endorsement. The category breakdown on this page shows every signal behind the number, including the ones we could not confirm.

### What tools does the LogoLab MCP server expose?

LogoLab exposes 5 tools: inspect_icon, trace_icon, export_icons, make_app_icons, split_icon_sheet. Their descriptions and schemas cost roughly 4,157 tokens of context every time the server is loaded.

### Is the LogoLab MCP server still maintained?

LogoLab is still listed as active in the MCP registry. We last reached this channel on 5 November 2026. Those dates come from our own scans of the registry and the channel itself, not from anything the publisher announced.

### What licence is the LogoLab MCP server under?

LogoLab declares the MIT licence, which is OSI-approved. That covers the source only, and says nothing about the cost of any service it calls.

### What did VerifyMCP test on the LogoLab MCP server?

VerifyMCP ran 16 checks on LogoLab, covering Malware scan, Known CVEs, Install scripts, Dependency health and 12 more. Endpoint Security and Transport & Reachability do not apply to an npm package, so they were not tested. The score does not measure everything, and the scoring documentation lists what it leaves out.
