## Trust breakdown

How this component scores in each security and reliability category. Every signal is checked automatically from public evidence about the published package, including repeated runs of it in an isolated sandbox, and we only credit what we can confirm. Scores are 0–100 per category. Scoring method: https://verifymcp.io/docs/scoring (what has changed: https://verifymcp.io/docs/scoring/changelog)

Scored 2026-11-05.

- **Supply Chain Security**: 50/100
  - Malware scan not yet available for this package.
  - No known CVEs affecting this package version or its production dependencies.
  - Runs hatchling.build at install time, a recognised build step with no custom scripting around it.
  - 0 of 28 dependencies flagged as unhealthy.
- **Provenance & Transparency**: 97/100
  - Source repository is publicly reachable at the declared URL.
  - Cryptographically verified build provenance (signed, bound to Blade-Labs/fanar-mcp).
  - Clear OSI-approved license (Apache-2.0).
  - Actively maintained (last published 16 days ago).
  - Disclosure check failed: no security disclosure policy was found in the source repository.
- **Schema Quality & AI Usability**: 75/100
  - 100% of prompts and resources have a non-trivial description (not blank, and not just the item's name).
  - AI-judged instruction clarity (fair).
  - Tool/resource definitions use about 1219 tokens (~101/item across 12 items; 12 tools + 0 resources), lean.
  - Usage-examples check failed: none of the tools include examples.
- **Stability & Change Management**: 57/100

## MCP tools (12)

### `fanar_list_models` (~54 tokens)

List the Fanar models this API key may call. Entitlements differ per key: for example
Fanar-Sadiq-2, which powers the quotation validator and deep research, must be enabled by Fanar.

### `fanar_chat` (~123 tokens)

Chat with a Fanar language model. Fanar-C-2-27B is the Fanar 2.0 27B model for Arabic (MSA and
Gulf, Levantine and Egyptian dialects) and English; "Fanar" is the default alias. Set thinking=true
for step-by-step reasoning. About 50 requests a minute.

Input parameters:

- `max_tokens` (integer)
- `model` (string)
- `prompt` (string, required)
- `system`
- `temperature`
- `thinking` (boolean)

### `fanar_islamic_qa` (~173 tokens)

Ask Fanar-Sadiq an Islamic question and get an answer grounded in cited sources such as the
Qur'an, hadith collections and fatwa collections. Show the references with the answer and present
it as a cited answer, never as a fatwa. Fanar-Sadiq-2 adds madhab and source filters when your key
is entitled to it; madhab is a list such as ["hanafi"], from all, hanafi, maliki, shafii and hanbali.
About 50 requests a minute.

Input parameters:

- `exclude_sources`
- `madhab`
- `max_tokens` (integer)
- `model` (string)
- `preferred_sources`
- `question` (string, required)
- `restrict_to_islamic`

### `fanar_validate_quotations` (~94 tokens)

Detect and verify Qur'an and hadith quotations inside any text: an LLM answer, a draft, an
article. Verified quotations come back tagged and linked to canonical sources; a quotation left
untagged could not be confirmed and must be treated as unverified. Requires Fanar-Sadiq-2 on the
key. About 200 requests a minute.

Input parameters:

- `text` (string, required)

### `fanar_deep_research` (~111 tokens)

Start a Fanar-Sadiq-2 deep research job: a structured report on an Islamic topic, with headings
and cited sources. It takes minutes (quick about 3-6, standard about 7-10); poll it with
fanar_deep_research_result. Requires Fanar-Sadiq-2 on the key. About 20 jobs a day.

Input parameters:

- `depth` (string)
- `topic` (string, required)
- `web_search` (boolean)

### `fanar_deep_research_result` (~42 tokens)

Fetch the status, progress or finished report of a Fanar-Sadiq-2 deep research job.

Input parameters:

- `job_id` (string, required)

### `fanar_translate` (~82 tokens)

Translate between Arabic and English with Fanar's Shaheen models, including classical Arabic such
as hadith and fiqh texts. About 20 requests a day; keep each request under about 4,000 words.

Input parameters:

- `langpair` (string, required)
- `model` (string)
- `preprocessing` (string)
- `text` (string, required)

### `fanar_text_to_speech` (~106 tokens)

Speak Arabic or English text with a Fanar Aura voice and save it as an audio file; returns the
file path. Qur'an recitation by a named reciter needs Fanar-Sadiq-TTS-1. About 20 requests a day.

Input parameters:

- `filename`
- `model` (string)
- `quran_reciter`
- `response_format` (string)
- `text` (string, required)
- `voice` (string)

### `fanar_transcribe` (~77 tokens)

Transcribe Arabic (including dialects) or English audio from a local file with Fanar Aura.
long_form=true uses the long-audio model (about 10 requests a day); otherwise about 20 a day.

Input parameters:

- `audio_path` (string, required)
- `long_form` (boolean)
- `output` (string)

### `fanar_generate_image` (~65 tokens)

Generate a culturally aware image with Fanar Oryx and save it; returns the file path and the
prompt as Fanar revised it. About 20 requests a day.

Input parameters:

- `filename`
- `prompt` (string, required)
- `revise` (boolean)

### `fanar_moderate` (~58 tokens)

Score a prompt and response pair with FanarGuard for safety and cultural awareness, in Arabic or
English. Requires Fanar-Guard-2 on the key.

Input parameters:

- `prompt` (string, required)
- `response` (string, required)

### `fanar_poem` (~41 tokens)

Compose Arabic poetry in the classical tradition with Fanar-Diwan. Requires Fanar-Diwan on the key.

Input parameters:

- `prompt` (string, required)

## Common questions

### What is the Fanar MCP server?

Fanar is an MCP server listed in the public MCP registry as io.github.Blade-Labs/fanar-mcp. Fanar (QCRI) for MCP: cited Islamic Q&A, Qur'an and hadith checks, Arabic translation and speech. This page covers its PyPI package (fanar-mcp).

### Is the Fanar MCP server safe to use?

Fanar scores 71 out of 100 on VerifyMCP. We found no known CVEs affecting it as of 5 November 2026. Its build provenance is signed and verified. That is a record of what we were able to check automatically, not an endorsement. The category breakdown on this page shows every signal behind the number, including the ones we could not confirm.

### What tools does the Fanar MCP server expose?

Fanar exposes 12 tools: fanar_list_models, fanar_chat, fanar_islamic_qa, fanar_validate_quotations, fanar_deep_research, and 7 more. Their descriptions and schemas cost roughly 1,026 tokens of context every time the server is loaded.

### Is the Fanar MCP server still maintained?

Fanar is still listed as active in the MCP registry. We last reached this channel on 5 November 2026. Those dates come from our own scans of the registry and the channel itself, not from anything the publisher announced.

### What licence is the Fanar MCP server under?

Fanar declares the Apache-2.0 licence, which is OSI-approved. That covers the source only, and says nothing about the cost of any service it calls.

### What did VerifyMCP test on the Fanar MCP server?

VerifyMCP ran 15 checks on Fanar, covering Known CVEs, Install scripts, Dependency health, Source repository and 11 more. One item could not be completed, a gap on our side rather than a finding about Fanar: Malware scan. Endpoint Security and Transport & Reachability do not apply to a PyPI package, so they were not tested. The score does not measure everything, and the scoring documentation lists what it leaves out.
