## Trust breakdown

How this component scores in each security and reliability category. Every signal is checked automatically against the live server, and we only credit what we can confirm. Scores are 0–100 per category. Scoring method: https://verifymcp.io/docs/scoring (what has changed: https://verifymcp.io/docs/scoring/changelog)

Scored 2026-10-06.

- **Endpoint Security**: 74/100
  - The endpoint's TLS certificate is valid, in date, and uses a strong key.
  - No authorisation is required to call this server. Every tool declares its destructiveHint and none is destructive, so open access doesn't expose one.
  - HTTPS is enforced; there's no plaintext access path.
  - HSTS check failed: the Strict-Transport-Security header is absent.
  - DNSSEC check failed: this domain isn't protected by DNSSEC.
- **Transport & Reachability**: 100/100
  - Verified streamable-http transport via a live MCP handshake.
- **Schema Quality & AI Usability**: 85/100
  - 100% of prompts and resources have a non-trivial description (not blank, and not just the item's name).
  - AI-judged instruction clarity (excellent).
  - Tool/resource definitions use about 484 tokens (~121/item across 4 items; 3 tools + 1 resources), lean.
  - Usage-examples check failed: none of the tools include examples.
- **Stability & Change Management**: 23/100
  - Stability observed for 7 of 30 days with no destabilising changes; credit accrues until the full window elapses.
- **Tool Coverage**: 100/100
  - 100% of tools have a non-trivial description (not blank, and not just the tool's name).
  - 100% of tool parameters carry a description.
  - Structured output schemas are declared (100% of tools); any adoption earns full credit.
- **Tool Safety**: 100/100
  - No prompt-injection markers were found in the server instructions, tool names or descriptions we captured.
  - We read all 3 captured tool definition(s), and no name or description among them implies an irreversible operation.
  - An AI judge read all 4 captured unit(s) of tool text and found none that tries to manipulate the model reading it.
- **Capabilities**: 100/100
  - Implements a current MCP spec version (2026-07-28).
  - Supports UI / widget rendering.

## Install

### How do I install the Samplecut MCP server?

Samplecut is a hosted endpoint at https://api.samplecut.app/mcp, so there is nothing to install locally. Ready-made configuration for Claude, Cursor, VS Code, Codex and 5 more is on this page, copied from each client's own documentation.

### Claude

```bash
claude mcp add --transport http app-samplecut-samplecut 'https://api.samplecut.app/mcp'
```

### Cursor

```json
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "app-samplecut-samplecut": {
      "url": "https://api.samplecut.app/mcp"
    }
The mcpServers block is a cross-client convention. Remote transports vary, so check your client's docs.
## Changelog
Every change recorded for this component, newest first. Days that predate change tracking, or that we cannot explain, say so: "we were watching and nothing happened" and "we were not watching" are different claims.
### 2026-10-06 (score 76, +1)
No change was recorded against any check on this day. Stability & Change Management went from 17 to 23. That category is still filling its 30-day observation window: 5 days of observed history at the previous scan, 7 at this one. The score rises as the window fills, whether or not the server changes.
### 2026-10-03 (score 75, +1)
No change was recorded against any check on this day. Stability & Change Management went from 10 to 13. That category is still filling its 30-day observation window: 3 days of observed history at the previous scan, 4 at this one. The score rises as the window fills, whether or not the server changes.
## MCP tools (3)
### `cut_audio` (~217 tokens)
Cut audio
Cut audio from a YouTube, TikTok, or Instagram URL and return a short-lived download link. Lead with download_url for cut/download requests; offer editor_url when the user wants to tweak the selection. Links expire after about an hour — ask again in chat for a fresh cut if expired. Omit start_sec and end_sec for the full track. format defaults to mp3 (wav allowed). clip_id and peaks drive the interactive clip card some chat apps show; do not show them to the user. If the user adjusted the clip in the card, read the widget context for the current range and download link before answering follow-ups.
Input parameters:
- `duration_sec` (number): Clip length in seconds from start_sec (default 0) when end_sec is omitted
- `end_sec` (number): Range end in seconds
- `format` (string): Download format; default mp3
- `start_sec` (number): Range start in seconds
- `url` (string, required): YouTube, TikTok, or Instagram URL to cut
Output parameters:
- `clip_id` (string)
- `download_url` (string)
- `editor_url` (string)
- `end_sec` (number)
- `expires_at` (string)
- `filename` (string)
- `format` (string)
- `full` (boolean)
- `peaks` (array)
- `start_sec` (number)
- `title` (string)
- `track_duration_sec` (number)
### `get_transcript` (~141 tokens)
Get transcript
Fetch timestamped captions for a YouTube, TikTok, or Instagram URL when the platform provides them. Use segment start_sec/end_sec (or the flat text) to choose a cut range, then call cut_audio with the same URL and those times. When available is false there are no captions — do not invent lyrics or timestamps; tell the user to pick times another way. Optional lang is a BCP-47 code (default en). No job_id is returned.
Input parameters:
- `lang` (string): Optional BCP-47 caption language (default en)
- `url` (string, required): YouTube, TikTok, or Instagram URL to fetch captions for
Output parameters:
- `available` (boolean)
- `lang`
- `segments` (array)
- `source`
- `text` (string)
### `retrim_clip` (~106 tokens)
Adjust clip
Re-cut a clip from Samplecut's clip card to a new start/end, reusing the audio already extracted for it. Called by the interactive card; to cut something new, use cut_audio.
Input parameters:
- `clip_id` (string, required): clip_id from a cut_audio result
- `end_sec` (number, required): New range end in seconds
- `format` (string): Download format; default the clip's current format
- `start_sec` (number, required): New range start in seconds
Output parameters:
- `clip_id` (string)
- `download_url` (string)
- `editor_url` (string)
- `end_sec` (number)
- `expires_at` (string)
- `filename` (string)
- `format` (string)
- `full` (boolean)
- `peaks` (array)
- `start_sec` (number)
- `title` (string)
- `track_duration_sec` (number)
## Common questions
### What is the Samplecut MCP server?
Samplecut is an MCP server listed in the public MCP registry as app.samplecut/samplecut. Cut audio from YouTube, TikTok or Instagram links to MP3/WAV, and fetch video transcripts. This page covers its hosted endpoint (https://api.samplecut.app/mcp).
### Is the Samplecut MCP server safe to use?
Samplecut scores 76 out of 100 on VerifyMCP. That is a record of what we were able to check automatically, not an endorsement. The category breakdown on this page shows every signal behind the number, including the ones we could not confirm.
### What tools does the Samplecut MCP server expose?
Samplecut exposes 3 tools: cut_audio, get_transcript, retrim_clip. Their descriptions and schemas cost roughly 464 tokens of context every time the server is loaded.
### Does the Samplecut MCP server require authentication?
No. We connected to Samplecut without credentials and it answered, so anything it exposes is reachable by anyone who knows the address.
### Is the Samplecut MCP server still maintained?
Samplecut is still listed as active in the MCP registry. We last reached this channel on 6 October 2026. Those dates come from our own scans of the registry and the channel itself, not from anything the publisher announced.
