## Trust breakdown

How this component scores in each security and reliability category. Every signal is checked automatically against the live server, and we only credit what we can confirm. Scores are 0–100 per category. Scoring method: https://verifymcp.io/docs/scoring (what has changed: https://verifymcp.io/docs/scoring/changelog)

Scored 2026-11-05.

- **Endpoint Security**: 46/100
  - The endpoint's TLS certificate is valid, in date, and uses a strong key.
  - Authorisation not fully verified: no authorisation is required to call this server, and 3 tool(s) never declared a destructiveHint. The MCP spec treats an absent hint as destructive by default, so we cannot call this surface safe.
  - HTTPS enforcement could not be verified: the plaintext port answered with HTTP 405, which proves neither a plaintext path nor enforcement.
  - HSTS check failed: the Strict-Transport-Security header is absent.
  - DNSSEC check failed: this domain isn't protected by DNSSEC.
- **Transport & Reachability**: 100/100
  - Verified streamable-http transport via a live MCP handshake.
- **Schema Quality & AI Usability**: 55/100
  - AI-judged instruction clarity (good).
  - Context-footprint check failed: tool/resource definitions use about 827 tokens (~275/item across 3 items; 3 tools + 0 resources), over budget; trim descriptions and params.
  - Usage-examples check failed: none of the tools include examples.
- **Stability & Change Management**: 10/100
  - Stability observed for 3 of 30 days with no destabilising changes; credit accrues until the full window elapses.
- **Tool Coverage**: 100/100
  - 100% of tools have a non-trivial description (not blank, and not just the tool's name).
  - 100% of tool parameters carry a description.
- **Tool Safety**: 100/100
  - No prompt-injection markers were found in the server instructions, tool names or descriptions we captured.
  - We read all 3 captured tool definition(s), and no name or description among them implies an irreversible operation.
  - An AI judge read all 4 captured unit(s) of tool text and found none that tries to manipulate the model reading it.
- **Capabilities**: 100/100
  - Implements a current MCP spec version (2026-07-28).

The mcpServers block is a cross-client convention. Remote transports vary, so check your client's docs.

## Changelog

Every change recorded for this component, newest first. Days that predate change tracking, or that we cannot explain, say so: "we were watching and nothing happened" and "we were not watching" are different claims.

### 2026-11-05 (score 58, +1)

No change was recorded against any check on this day. Stability & Change Management went from 7 to 10. That category is still filling its 30-day observation window: 2 days of observed history at the previous scan, 3 at this one. The score rises as the window fills, whether or not the server changes.

### 2026-11-03 (score 57, +1)

## MCP tools (3)

### `youtube_search` (~238 tokens)

Search YouTube (SerpAPI)

Search YouTube live via SerpAPI. Returns video_results (videos), plus channels, playlists, movies and related searches. Each video result's id is the YouTube video id — feed it as `v` to youtube_video (details, related videos, comments) and to youtube_transcript. `sp` carries SerpAPI filter and next-page tokens from a prior result for pagination / refined filtering.

Input parameters:

- `gl` (string): Country code for the search, e.g. 'us', 'uk', 'de'.
- `hl` (string): Language code, e.g. 'en', 'es', 'pt-br'.
- `no_cache` (boolean): Force a fresh SerpAPI fetch and bypass this server's result cache. Default false.
- `search_query` (string, required): Search query for YouTube (required). Same syntax as the YouTube search box.
- `sp` (string): Filter / pagination token from a prior result: carries YouTube search filters and the next-page token.
- `zero_trace` (boolean): Enterprise-only ZeroTrace mode: don't store search params/metadata on SerpAPI. Default false.

### `youtube_video` (~209 tokens)

Get YouTube Video (SerpAPI)

Fetch a single YouTube video by id via SerpAPI: details, related videos, comments and replies. `v` is the video id from a youtube_search video_results entry. Page related videos / comments / replies with next_page_token from a prior result.

Input parameters:

- `gl` (string): Country code for the search, e.g. 'us', 'uk', 'de'.
- `hl` (string): Language code, e.g. 'en', 'es', 'pt-br'.
- `next_page_token` (string): Token from a prior result to page through related videos, comments, or replies.
- `no_cache` (boolean): Force a fresh SerpAPI fetch and bypass this server's result cache. Default false.
- `v` (string, required): YouTube video id (required), e.g. the id from a youtube_search video_results entry.
- `zero_trace` (boolean): Enterprise-only ZeroTrace mode: don't store search params/metadata on SerpAPI. Default false.

### `youtube_transcript` (~280 tokens)

Get YouTube Transcript (SerpAPI)

Fetch a YouTube video's transcript via SerpAPI. `v` is the video id from a youtube_search result. Pick a track with language_code (default 'en' — use the video's own language), and optionally title and type ('asr' for auto-generated captions). When the requested track doesn't exist the tool falls back once to an available track (same language first, manual before auto-generated) and says so in `note`.

Input parameters:

- `language_code` (string): Transcript language code, e.g. 'en', 'pl'. Default 'en' — pass the video's own language. If that track doesn't exist, an available one is used instead and `note` says which.
- `no_cache` (boolean): Force a fresh SerpAPI fetch and bypass this server's result cache. Default false.
- `title` (string): Transcript track title to select when multiple tracks exist.
- `type` (string): Transcript track type: 'asr' for auto-generated captions; omit for manual captions. If that track doesn't exist, an available one is used instead and `note` says which.
- `v` (string, required): YouTube video id (required) — the id from a youtube_search result.
- `zero_trace` (boolean): Enterprise-only ZeroTrace mode: don't store search params/metadata on SerpAPI. Default false.

## Common questions

### What is the YouTube MCP server?

YouTube MCP is listed in the public MCP registry as ai.wondel/youtube. YouTube search: find videos, fetch details and comments, pull full transcripts. This page covers its hosted endpoint (https://mcp.wondel.ai/youtube/mcp).

### Is the YouTube MCP server safe to use?

YouTube MCP scores 58 out of 100 on VerifyMCP. That is a record of what we were able to check automatically, not an endorsement. The category breakdown on this page shows every signal behind the number, including the ones we could not confirm.

### What tools does the YouTube MCP server expose?

YouTube MCP exposes 3 tools: youtube_search, youtube_video, youtube_transcript. Their descriptions and schemas cost roughly 727 tokens of context every time the server is loaded.

### Does the YouTube MCP server require authentication?

No. We connected to YouTube MCP without credentials and it answered, so anything it exposes is reachable by anyone who knows the address.

### Is the YouTube MCP server still maintained?

YouTube MCP is still listed as active in the MCP registry. We last reached this channel on 5 November 2026. Those dates come from our own scans of the registry and the channel itself, not from anything the publisher announced.

### What did VerifyMCP test on the YouTube MCP server?

VerifyMCP ran 11 checks on YouTube MCP, covering TLS certificate, HSTS header, DNSSEC, Transport and 7 more. 2 items could not be completed, a gap on our side rather than a finding about YouTube MCP: Authorization and HTTPS. Supply Chain Security and Provenance & Transparency do not apply to a hosted endpoint, so they were not tested. The score does not measure everything, and the scoring documentation lists what it leaves out.
