## Trust breakdown

How this component scores in each security and reliability category. Every signal is checked automatically from public evidence about the published package, including repeated runs of it in an isolated sandbox, and we only credit what we can confirm. Scores are 0–100 per category. Scoring method: https://verifymcp.io/docs/scoring (what has changed: https://verifymcp.io/docs/scoring/changelog)

Scored 2026-11-05.

- **Supply Chain Security**: 0/100
  - No malware scan is available for this kind of package: the supply-chain vendors we use do not cover it. This is a permanent gap in our coverage, not a finding about the package.
  - Known CVEs could not be checked: this artifact ships no SBOM or dependency manifest, so there is no dependency list to read.
  - Install-script risk not yet assessed.
  - Dependency health could not be checked: this artifact ships no SBOM or dependency manifest, so there is no dependency list to read.
- **Provenance & Transparency**: 48/100
  - Source repository is publicly reachable at the declared URL.
  - Provenance check failed: no build-provenance attestation is published.
  - Clear OSI-approved license (MIT).
  - Actively maintained (last published 20 days ago).
  - Publishes a security disclosure policy (SECURITY.md).
- **Schema Quality & AI Usability**: 70/100
  - AI-judged instruction clarity (good).
  - Tool/resource definitions use about 2233 tokens (~101/item across 22 items; 22 tools + 0 resources), lean.
  - Usage-examples check failed: none of the tools include examples.
- **Stability & Change Management**: 73/100
  - Stability observed for 22 of 30 days with no destabilising changes; credit accrues until the full window elapses.
- **Tool Coverage**: 80/100
  - 100% of tools have a non-trivial description (not blank, and not just the tool's name).
  - 41% of tool parameters carry a description.
- **Tool Safety**: 75/100
  - No prompt-injection markers were found in the server instructions, tool names or descriptions we captured.
  - 0 of 1 tool(s) whose name or description implies an irreversible operation declare an MCP destructiveHint annotation; "send_message" implies "send" and declares no destructiveHint at all, which the MCP spec reads as destructive by default.
  - An AI judge read all 23 captured unit(s) of tool text and found none that tries to manipulate the model reading it.
- **Capabilities**: 100/100
  - Implements a current MCP spec version (2026-07-28).

**Unverified: 1 category.** A category scored 0 because we could not verify it: a data source with nothing on this package, evidence we could not reach, or a check we could not run. We only credit what we can confirm.

## Install

### How do I install the magents MCP server?

magents runs locally as a container image, launched with docker run --rm -i ghcr.io/abnegate/magents:0.14.2. Ready-made configuration for Claude, Cursor, VS Code, Codex and 3 more is on this page, copied from each client's own documentation.

### `send_message` (~100 tokens)

Send a message into an existing Claude, Codex, Copilot, Cursor, Gemini, AGY, Grok, or OpenCode chat. Native Claude UDS/tmux and Codex Desktop IPC are preferred; otherwise a supervised headless CLI resumes that exact session. The message is always queued in the magents mailbox.

Input parameters:

- `message` (string, required)
- `to` (string, required): Target session id, name, title, or `agent:ref`

### `session_digest` (~65 tokens)

Compact inert summary of a session: last request, last action, cwd, branch, clipped turns. Does not inject.

Input parameters:

- `limit` (integer|null)
- `session_id` (string, required): Session id, live name, title fragment, `agent:ref`, or `latest`

### `spawn_session` (~150 tokens)

Start a new headless persisted Claude, Codex, Copilot, Cursor, Gemini, AGY, Grok, or OpenCode session for independent work. Provide a complete task and request a reply. Pass an explicit isolated cwd when concurrent edits could collide. The host's native approvals apply; magents does not bypass them. An accepted/starting response means launch was accepted, not completed.

Input parameters:

- `agent` (string, required): agy, claude, codex, copilot, cursor, gemini, grok, or opencode
- `cwd` (string|null): Isolated working directory for the new session
- `message` (string, required): Complete independent task, including verification and how to reply

### `stop_session` (~45 tokens)

Stop a magents-supervised spawned or resumed session. Does not kill Desktop/TUI hosts.

Input parameters:

- `session_id` (string, required): Session id, title, or `agent:ref`

### `whoami` (~60 tokens)

Who this MCP connection is running as. Resolves session id from env, messaging socket, or a unique live cwd match. Uses the session id the host sends in request _meta, then falls back to the host process when the harness passes no session env.

## Common questions

### What is the magents MCP server?

magents is an MCP server listed in the public MCP registry as io.github.abnegate/magents. Shared session bus for Claude, Codex, Copilot, Cursor, Gemini, AGY, Grok, and OpenCode. This page covers its container image (ghcr.io/abnegate/magents).

### Is the magents MCP server safe to use?

magents scores 47 out of 100 on VerifyMCP. That is a record of what we were able to check automatically, not an endorsement. The category breakdown on this page shows every signal behind the number, including the ones we could not confirm.

### What tools does the magents MCP server expose?

magents exposes 22 tools: ack, await_reply, create_memory, files_touched, get_note, and 17 more. Their descriptions and schemas cost roughly 1,984 tokens of context every time the server is loaded.

### Is the magents MCP server still maintained?

magents is still listed as active in the MCP registry. We last reached this channel on 5 November 2026. Those dates come from our own scans of the registry and the channel itself, not from anything the publisher announced.

### What licence is the magents MCP server under?

magents declares the MIT licence, which is OSI-approved. That covers the source only, and says nothing about the cost of any service it calls.
